Position Overview
Our client is seeking a strategic, results-oriented Business Development Director to lead revenue growth across its temperature-controlled and port-based warehousing operations. This senior sales leader will be responsible for developing new business, expanding strategic customer relationships, and building a high-performing sales organization across key industry verticals, including alcoholic beverages, food and beverage, healthcare, and plastics and resins. The ideal candidate will bring extensive experience in third-party logistics, warehousing, or contract logistics sales, along with strong knowledge of port-based markets and a demonstrated ability to secure complex, high-value logistics contracts.
Key Responsibilities
Sales Strategy and Revenue Growth
- Develop and execute a comprehensive sales strategy to increase warehouse revenue across all markets and service offerings.
- Lead new business development efforts within targeted verticals, including alcoholic beverages, food and beverage, healthcare, and plastics and resins.
- Identify, pursue, and close complex, high-value warehousing and logistics opportunities.
- Expand relationships with existing customers by identifying additional service needs and revenue opportunities.
- Identify and promote high-margin, value-added services, including cross-docking, storage optimization, and integrated port logistics solutions.
- Establish sales goals, performance metrics, and forecasting processes to support sustainable revenue growth.
Market Development and Customer Engagement
- Build and maintain strong executive-level relationships with key customers, prospects, and strategic partners.
- Serve as a trusted advisor by understanding customer supply chain challenges and developing customized logistics solutions.
- Represent the organization at industry conferences, trade associations, networking events, and port logistics forums.
- Monitor industry trends, market conditions, customer needs, and competitive activity to inform sales strategies and positioning.
- Identify emerging markets and new business opportunities that align with the organization’s capabilities and growth objectives.
Sales Leadership
- Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing warehouse sales team.
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance management to support individual and team success.
- Promote a collaborative, accountable, and results-driven sales culture.
- Establish consistent sales processes, reporting standards, and pipeline-management practices.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner closely with Operations, Finance, Transportation, and Executive Leadership to ensure pricing accuracy, operational feasibility, and service alignment.
- Lead or support contract negotiations, proposal development, and responses to requests for proposals.
- Collaborate with internal teams to develop competitive and profitable customer solutions.
- Ensure a seamless transition from contract award through implementation and ongoing account management.
- Communicate customer expectations and contractual requirements to operational stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive sales and business development experience within third-party logistics, warehousing, contract logistics, or a related industry.
- Demonstrated success leading sales teams and achieving significant revenue-growth targets.
- Proven experience securing complex, high-value warehousing or logistics contracts.
- Strong understanding of port-based logistics, import and export operations, and related supply chain services.
- Experience with temperature-controlled warehousing is strongly preferred.
- Experience selling logistics services within the alcoholic beverage, food and beverage, healthcare, plastics, or resin industries is highly preferred.
- Strong negotiation, presentation, financial analysis, and relationship-management skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with operational, financial, and executive stakeholders.
- Willingness to travel as required to meet with customers, attend industry events, and support business-development activities.
Salary : $140,000 - $175,000
