JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Lead Data Architect will define and lead the enterprise data strategy, including the design and implementation of a secure, scalable, and compliant data warehouse and ETL ecosystem. This role requires hands-on technical expertise in Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, and cross-domain data integration, combined with proven leadership in mission-critical environments.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Own the end‑to‑end data strategy, defining data models, warehouse schemas, and integration patterns that meet business and security requirements.
· Lead, mentor, and grow a small team of DBAs and data engineers, ensuring alignment with cross‑functional stakeholders (DevOps, security, analytics).
· Design and oversee the data migration and integration across unclassified and classified systems to Azure Synapse, ensuring minimal downtime and data integrity.
· Develop and maintain complex ETL pipelines (ADF, Synapse Pipelines, Databricks) that ingest data from unclassified and classified systems.
· Drive performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization across the data platform, ensuring sub‑second query response times for critical reports. Optimize cost and performance using Azure Cost Management, Advisor, and Policy.
· Enforce 100 % Azure Policy compliance, implement STIGs, and support NIST/RMF certification efforts for DoD environments.
· Own cross‑domain data synchronization projects (e.g., NIPR → SIPR) and deliver on schedule, providing strategic capability to senior leadership.
· Work with stakeholders to align data architecture with evolving business and mission requirements.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
· CompTIA Security certification
· Bachelor’s or higher in Engineering, Science, or IT.
· 8 years of experience in data architecture, with a focus on cloud platforms.
· Deep expertise in Azure Synapse, Azure Data Factory, and Azure SQL Managed Instances.
· Proven track record of large‑scale data migrations and cross‑domain synchronization.
· Excellent communication, stakeholder‑management, and team‑leadership skills.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
· Certification in Microsoft Azure Data Architecture.
· Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines for database deployments (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions).
· Knowledge of data‑quality frameworks and data‑governance tools.
