Special Education Teaching Opportunities Contract Positions in Reading, PA
We are seeking dedicated Special Education teachers for contract roles serving diverse learners in a supportive school environment. These positions focus on secondary life skills, secondary autism support, and elementary autism support, each designed to meet the unique needs of students with cognitive and behavioral challenges.
Opportunities Available:
Secondary/High School Life Skills
- Primarily serving 9th-11th graders, with approximately 10 learners focused on cognitive needs and generally low behaviors
- Classroom support includes a paraprofessional and assigned 1:1 staff
- Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:25 AM 2:45 PM; five 70-minute periods per day (four academic, one prep period with additional time for intervention or clubs)
- Teacher lunch aligns with student lunch, 30 minutes (teachers not required to attend)
Secondary Autism Support Supplemental
- Newly created position for the 2026-2027 school year, supporting higher-functioning middle and high school learners on the autism spectrum
- Approximately 12 learners (five middle school, seven high school) with social challenges that require supplemental support
- In-class assistance from two paraprofessionals and designated 1:1 support staff
- Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:25 AM 2:45 PM; five 70-minute periods (four academic, one prep with additional intervention/clubs)
- Teacher lunch concurrent with learners, 30 minutes without attendance requirement
Elementary Autism Support
- New role for the 2026-2027 academic year at the elementary level, supporting up to eight learners, mostly verbal or utilizing AAC devices
- Serving primarily 2nd-3rd graders with possible behavioral challenges
- Collaboration with Personal Care Assistants at a 1:2 staff-to-learner ratio
- School day: Monday-Friday, 8:15 AM 3:45 PM; includes 45 minutes prep and 30 minutes lunch
Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid teaching certification in Special Education
- Experience with life skills curriculum and cognitive or autism spectrum learners preferred
- Ability to collaborate effectively with paraprofessionals, 1:1 staff, and other school personnel
- Strong classroom management skills and patience for behavioral supports
