A full-time Registered Nurse with school nursing experience is needed to support one to two schools within Jefferson Parish, New Orleans, LA. This contract position offers an opportunity to make a positive impact on student health and well-being across both East and West Bank locations, as assigned by the district.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to students, including managing tracheostomies and gastrostomy tubes (g-tubes) and caring for diabetic students.
- Maintain accurate and detailed health records in compliance with school and IEP requirements.
- Conduct health screenings and implement appropriate interventions.
- Train and delegate tasks to non-medical staff in medical procedures.
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, and school personnel to support student health.
- Utilize technology proficiently for record keeping and communication, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Google Sheets.
Qualifications:
- Active RN license; BSN preferred but ASN accepted.
- Previous school nursing experience required.
- Skilled in working with special medical needs and student health plans.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Experience in training and supervising non-medical staff.
- Demonstrated passion for working with children and improving student health outcomes.
- Must be able to complete district-required drug screening and fingerprinting.
