Required Skills & Experience:
-Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Materials Engineering, or related field
-Experience working with metals or alloys (specifically nickel, stainless steels, titanium or aluminum)
-Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in failure analysis and root cause investigation
-Experience with any of these testing methods: HCF, LCF, creep testing, fatigue/creep crack testing, thermophysical, tensile, stress or stress/strain characterization and testing
Nice to Have Skills & Experience:
-Experience with gas turbine or high-temperature materials (superalloys, coatings, etc.)
-Experience working at a metals testing lab (i.e. Sage, Element, Juliet)
-Experience with MATLAB or Python
-Experience with machine learning or desire to advance career in machine learning
Day to day:
A gas turbine company is seeking a Materials Engineer to support the development, performance, and reliability of gas turbine components. This role focuses on advanced materials, including high temperature alloys and coatings, and plays a critical part in ensuring product durability in demanding operating environments.
The Materials Engineer will work cross-functionally with design engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and customer support teams to solve complex materials challenges, improve processes, and drive product innovation.
Key Responsibilities:
-Conduct failure analysis and root cause investigations on turbine components to improve reliability and prevent recurrence
-Provide technical expertise in metallurgy, materials performance, and thermomechanical processing, with emphasis on turbomachinery alloys
-Support new product development programs, including materials selection and validation for gas turbine applications
-Lead and support materials and process development initiatives, including coatings, heat treatment, casting, welding, and other manufacturing processes
-Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve product and manufacturing challenges and improve performance, quality, and cost
-Evaluate and qualify internal and external suppliers, ensuring materials meet engineering specifications and quality standards -
-Perform materials testing, characterization, and analysis to support engineering decisions and product improvements [lensa.com]
-Develop and maintain engineering documentation, specifications, and technical reports related to materials and processes -
-Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, durability, and cost reduction
