It is the mission of the District Attorney's Office to seek and do justice by assisting law enforcement and other public agencies in the investigation of crimes, prosecuting only those crimes which can be proved beyond a reasonable doubt, ensuring a fair trial for those accused of crime as well as for victims and witnesses of crimes, advocating to the public and to the Board of Supervisors necessary improvements to the criminal justice system, and educating the public by providing prompt and accurate information regarding the activities of the office and the administration of criminal justice.

The District Attorney of Solano County invites you to apply for the position of Deputy District Attorney I-IV. Deputy District Attorneys practice criminal and civil law in the prosecution of individuals accused of violating state and/or local laws.

Prior felony jury trial experience in any one or more of the following Major Crimes areas, such as: homicide, sexual assault, gangs, domestic violence, human trafficking and career criminal is desirable.

The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill part-time and full-time regular, limited-term or extra-help positions as vacancies occur or the need arises.

Experience

Deputy District Attorney I ($8,164.50 - 9,924.00/month): no experience is required, however, applicants must demonstrate possession of, and competency in, requisite knowledge and abilities.

Deputy District Attorney II ($11, 050.18 - $13,431.65/month): a minimum of six months of criminal prosecution and trial experience as a Deputy District Attorney I or its equivalent which demonstrates possession of and competency in requisite knowledge and abilities. Three years experience in the general practice of law may be substituted for the six months of criminal law experience.

Deputy District Attorney III ($12,707.78- $15,446.46/month): a minimum of one year of criminal prosecution and trial experience as a Deputy District Attorney II or its equivalent (a total of 1.5 years of criminal prosecution and trial experience as a Deputy District Attorney) which demonstrates possession of and competency in requisite knowledge and abilities. Four years experience in the general practice of law may be substituted for the two years of criminal law experience.

Deputy District Attorney IV ($14,616.85 - $17,766.86/month): a minimum of one year of criminal prosecution and trial experience as a Deputy District Attorney III or its equivalent (a total of 2.5 years of criminal prosecution and trial experience as a Deputy District Attorney) which demonstrates possession of and competency in requisite knowledge and abilities. Five years experience in the general practice of law may be substituted for the three years criminal law experience.

Special Requirements

All levels of Deputy District Attorney: Active membership in the California State Bar Association is required.

Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Class C California driver's license may be required.

Document Submittal Requirements

Applicants are eligible to apply for this position if (1) they are licensed to practice law in this state by the State Bar of California, or (2) they have taken the most recent bar exam administered by the State Bar of California and are currently awaiting the results of that bar exam, or if they have passed the California State Bar exam and are currently awaiting certification from the State Bar of California regarding their eligibility to practice law in this state.

Applicants applying under criteria #1, are required to enter their active California State Bar Number on their submitted application.

Applicants applying under criteria #2, are required to submit proof of enrollment in the most recent bar exam or provide their California State Bar results to their application. An active California State Bar number will be required prior to appointment.

SELECTION PROCESS

Applications will be reviewed every two (2) weeks as needed.

Based on the information provided in the application documents, the qualified applicants will be invited for further examination and will either be pre-scheduled by the Department of Human Resources or be invited to self-schedule. All applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through any subsequent phase of the examination. Depending upon the number of applications received, the selection process may consist of an initial application screening, a mandatory information meeting, a written and/or practical exam, an oral board exam, or any combination listed. Responses to supplemental questions may be used as screening and testing mechanisms and will be used to assess an applicant’s ability to advance in the process; as such, responses to supplemental questions should be treated as test examination responses. RETIREES - Solano County invites all to apply for positions; however pursuant to Government Code Section 21221(h) and 21224, hiring restrictions may apply to California Public Sector Pension Plan Retirees.

VETERAN'S PREFERENCE POINTS

To be eligible, applicant must have served at least 181 consecutive days of active duty in the Armed Forces of the United States and have received either an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions. A COPY OF THE DD 214, SHOWING DISCHARGE TYPE (GENERALLY COPY 4), MUST BE RECEIVED IN THE HUMAN RESOURCES DEPARTMENT BY THE FINAL FILING DATE (or APPLICATION REVIEW DEADLINE). Applicants who have a service connected disability must also submit a recent award letter from the VA stating they are receiving disability benefits for service connected reasons.

Veteran applicants for initial County employment with an honorable or general under conditions discharge shall receive five (5) points added to their combined score. Disabled veterans rated at not less than 30% disability shall have ten (10) points added to their combined score. Veteran’s preference points will only be added to passing scores in competitive open examinations.
