Substance Use Disorder Counselor (SUDP or SUDPT)

Position Overview
We are seeking a Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) or Substance Use Disorder Professional Trainee (SUDPT) to join our outpatient behavioral health team in Puyallup.

This position provides counseling and case management services to individuals participating in substance use disorder treatment. Services may include assessments, individual counseling, group facilitation, treatment planning, and recovery support services.
Many clients are referred through the court system, and treatment focuses on supporting meaningful behavior change while maintaining clear expectations and accountability.
SUDPT candidates will receive clinical supervision toward SUDP certification and support in developing strong clinical skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitate substance use disorder treatment groups
- Provide individual counseling and recovery support services
- Conduct substance use disorder assessments and screenings
- Develop and maintain individualized treatment plans
- Provide case management and coordinate care with outside providers
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation including progress notes, treatment plans, and discharge summaries
- Complete court or compliance reports when applicable
- Maintain clinical files in accordance with WAC regulations, agency policies, and CARF standards
- Participate in clinical supervision, team meetings, and case staffing
- Support clients in developing recovery goals and sustainable behavior change
SUDPT Training Pathway
We are committed to supporting trainees working toward full Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) certification.
Our program provides:
- Weekly clinical supervision from an experienced SUDP
- Support tracking hours required for certification
- Hands-on training in assessments, treatment planning, and group facilitation
- Gradual development of a clinical caseload

Minimum Qualifications, Education and Credential Requirements
SUDP Applicants
- Active Substance Use Disorder Professional (SUDP) credential in Washington State
SUDPT Applicants
- Active Substance Use Disorder Professional Trainee (SUDPT) credential in Washington State
- Working toward certification requirements under WAC 246-811
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of substance use disorders and recovery principles
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and ethical standards
- Ability to work effectively within a structured clinical environment
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage documentation requirements
- Ability to work with clients experiencing complex behavioral and legal challenges
Additional Requirements
- Valid Washington State driver’s license
- Ability to work occasional evening hours as needed for group services
- Understanding of recovery support models including 12-Step and other evidence-based approaches
- Ability to comply with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 confidentiality regulations
- Minimum one year freedom from substance misuse, consistent with Washington State standards

Work Location
This position is in-person at our Puyallup, Washington office.
Compensation
$19-24/hr
