Are you passionate about building world-class mobile applications, architecting scalable connected-device experiences, and leading the technical direction of products used by millions of consumers?

We are seeking an experienced Principal Mobile Application Developer to provide technical leadership and architectural ownership for a modern mobile application platform that powers connected consumer products. This is a senior individual contributor role responsible for defining mobile architecture, establishing engineering standards, and delivering exceptional user experiences across iOS and Android ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities

Mobile Architecture & Technical Leadership

• Own the overall mobile application architecture, including application structure, feature frameworks, connectivity workflows, and user experiences.
• Define and drive technical decisions that ensure scalability, maintainability, performance, and long-term product success.
• Establish engineering standards, architectural patterns, and development best practices to ensure consistency across teams and products.
• Lead technical design reviews and guide critical architectural decisions from concept through production deployment.

Product & Connected Device Integration

• Lead the integration of new connected products and capabilities into the mobile application ecosystem.
• Design flexible, reusable frameworks that support multiple product categories and evolving feature requirements.
• Collaborate with hardware, firmware, cloud, and product teams to define seamless user experiences and product interactions.
• Drive technical trade-off discussions to balance user experience, engineering complexity, and business objectives.

Software Development & Engineering Excellence

• Remain hands-on with development activities using modern mobile technologies and frameworks.
• Design and build reusable components, libraries, and shared capabilities that accelerate product development.
• Continuously improve application performance, code quality, architecture, and developer productivity.
• Contribute directly to the implementation of complex features and mission-critical functionality.

Connectivity & Platform Reliability

• Lead the design and optimization of device connectivity experiences, including onboarding, provisioning, synchronization, and remote control capabilities.
• Solve complex challenges related to wireless communication, real-time device interactions, and distributed system integrations.
• Ensure reliable communication between mobile applications, connected devices, and cloud services.
• Drive improvements in application stability, performance, resilience, and fault tolerance.

Quality, Testing & Operational Ownership

• Define testing strategies, automation frameworks, release management standards, and production quality metrics.
• Own application reliability, crash reduction initiatives, performance optimization, and production support strategies.
• Lead incident analysis, root cause investigations, and continuous improvement efforts based on real-world customer feedback.
• Establish standards for monitoring, diagnostics, rollout management, and operational excellence.

Innovation & Technical Research

• Evaluate emerging technologies, frameworks, tools, and engineering approaches that can improve product quality and development velocity.
• Lead proof-of-concept initiatives and technical explorations to validate architecture and development decisions.
• Drive innovation across mobile engineering through experimentation and continuous learning.
• Promote adoption of modern development practices and productivity-enhancing technologies.

Mentorship & Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Mentor engineers through design reviews, code reviews, technical coaching, and knowledge sharing.
• Help develop technical capabilities across the broader engineering organization.
• Partner with product managers, designers, architects, cloud engineers, firmware teams, and other technical stakeholders.
• Collaborate effectively across globally distributed teams to align technical strategies and execution.

AI-Enabled Development

• Champion the adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices to improve software design, development, testing, and delivery.
• Coach team members on effectively leveraging AI-powered development tools and workflows.
• Help establish responsible and scalable approaches for integrating AI into engineering processes.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
• 8 years of professional software engineering experience with significant expertise in mobile application development.
• Extensive experience building and maintaining large-scale consumer mobile applications.
• Proven experience designing and owning application architecture from concept through production support.
• Strong expertise in mobile development frameworks, modern programming languages, and application lifecycle management.
• Experience integrating mobile applications with cloud services, APIs, and distributed systems.
• Strong understanding of software design patterns, system architecture, performance optimization, and scalability.
• Demonstrated technical leadership through architecture decisions, mentorship, and engineering best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with cross-platform mobile development technologies and modern application frameworks.
• Deep understanding of mobile application release pipelines, CI/CD practices, and production operations.
• Expertise in real-time communications, synchronization patterns, and connected-device ecosystems.
• Experience with IoT products, smart devices, consumer electronics, or connected product platforms.
• Knowledge of wireless communication technologies and device provisioning workflows.
• Experience working with embedded systems, firmware teams, or hardware-integrated solutions.
• Familiarity with cloud-native architectures, microservices, and event-driven systems.
• Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity and quality.
• Exposure to modern systems programming languages and performance-critical application development.
