Now Hiring: Senior Auditor – Local Government Focus
Are you passionate about serving local communities through high-quality financial assurance work? We’re looking for a Senior Auditor with deep experience in local government auditing to lead engagements for municipalities, school districts, counties, colleges, water authorities, and other public-sector entities.
In this client-facing role, you'll apply advanced technical expertise in GASB, GAGAS, and Uniform Guidance to deliver high-quality audits, manage engagement teams, and serve as a trusted advisor to government finance leaders.
Engagement Leadership & Execution
- Lead and manage all phases of financial and compliance audits, including Single Audits (Uniform Guidance).
- Develop tailored audit strategies for local government operations (utilities, bond covenants, capital projects, pensions/OPEB, etc.).
- Supervise, review, and mentor audit staff while ensuring all work meets firm and GAGAS standards.
Technical Expertise & Reporting
- Serve as the go-to expert on complex government accounting topics including GASB 34, GASB 87, GASB 96, GASB 68/75, and more.
- Demonstrate advanced understanding of compliance requirements for school districts, municipalities, and special districts.
- Draft clear, comprehensive Audit Reports and Management Letters for governing boards and senior management.
Client Service & Relationship Building
- Build strong, collaborative relationships with CFOs, Comptrollers, and Department Heads.
- Communicate proactively with clients on audit status, risks, and technical issues throughout the engagement.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Experience: 4 years in public accounting focused on local government audits.
- Certification: Active CPA license required.
- Technical Skills:
- Expert knowledge of GASB and Uniform Guidance.
- Experience auditing major governmental funds (General Fund, Enterprise/Utility Funds, Capital Projects).
- Travel: Ability to travel locally to client sites.
- Strong understanding of the political, operational, and financial environments within local governments.
- High attention to detail and ability to analyze complex government documents and contracts.
- Commitment to professional ethics and adherence to GAGAS independence standards.
- Strong presentation and communication skills, especially when presenting findings to non-financial governing bodies.
