Job Title: Director of Human Resources
Job Purpose and Position Overview: Snow & Company is seeking a strategic, experienced, and results-driven Director of Human Resources to lead and oversee all aspects of the employee experience, compliance, and HR operations.
The Human Resources Director plays a critical leadership role in shaping and executing the organization’s people strategy while ensuring consistent, compliant, and high-quality employee experience. This individual is responsible for setting the vision and direction of the HR function, leading employee relations and performance management at a strategic level and ensuring adherence to all applicable employment laws and workplace regulations.
This role serves as a key partner to executive leadership, balancing strategic initiatives with operational execution in a fast-paced, hands-on environment. The ideal candidate brings strong business acumen, sound judgment, and the ability to positively influence leaders while building scalable people programs that support organizational growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- HR Strategy & Organizational Leadership
- Develop and execute the company’s overall HR strategy in alignment with business objectives
- Serve as a strategic advisor to executive leadership on organizational design, workforce planning, and talent strategy
- Build and scale HR programs, policies, and infrastructure to support company growth
- Lead and develop the HR function, ensuring clarity of roles, accountability, and high performance
- Employee Lifecycle Management
- Oversee and optimize the full employee lifecycle, including hiring, onboarding, development, and offboarding
- Establish scalable processes to ensure consistent and high-quality employee experience
- Ensure accurate and compliant employee records and documentation practices
- Employee Relations & Performance Management
- Provide strategic oversight of employee relations, including complex investigations and high-risk situations
- Guide and support leaders in managing performance, accountability, and team effectiveness
- Design and lead performance management frameworks, including reviews, feedback systems, and development planning
- Establish best practices for conflict resolution and escalation management
- Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure organizational compliance with all federal, state, and local employment laws, including OSHA and Washington L&I requirements
- Oversee the development and maintenance of employee handbook, policies, and procedures
- Lead risk management efforts related to employees, including investigations and mitigation strategies
- Partner with operational leadership to ensure alignment on workplace safety and compliance
- Compensation & Benefits Strategy
- Lead compensation strategy, including structure, benchmarking, and planning in partnership with executive leadership
- Oversee and approve compensation changes, ensuring internal equity and market competitiveness
- Own all benefits programs end-to-end, including vendor management, renewals, plan design, and compliance
- Lead benefits administration, including employee communication, enrollment, and issue resolution
- Evaluate and optimize benefits offerings to remain competitive and cost-effective
- Culture, Engagement, & Development
- Define and drive initiatives that strengthen company culture, employee engagement, and retention
- Partner with Talent Acquisition & Engagement Manager to align hiring and engagement strategies with organizational goals
- Oversee employee recognition, engagement programs, and internal communications strategies
- Establish and support leadership development and training programs across the organization
- HR Programs & Systems Oversight
- Ensure HR processes are scalable, documented, and consistently executed across the organization
- Oversee HR systems (including ADP) to ensure data accuracy, reporting capabilities, and operational efficiency
- Establish metrics and reporting to track HR performance and inform decision-making
- Maintain data integrity, confidentiality, and compliance across all HR systems
Essential Skills:
- Required:
- Minimum 10 years of progressive HR experience, including 5 years in a leadership role
- Strong knowledge of employment law, compliance, and risk management, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment
- Demonstrated ability to develop and execute HR strategy aligned with business objectives
- Proven experience managing benefits programs and vendor relationships directly
- Proven experience advising and influencing senior leadership
- Strong leadership, organizational, and change-management skills
- Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage complex, sensitive situations with discretion and sound judgment
- Proven ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, evolving environment
- Strong collaboration skills with a team-oriented mindset
- Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field
- Experience in shipbuilding, ship repair, or industrial manufacturing environments
- Experience scaling HR functions in a growing organization
- Certifications / Licenses:
- SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or equivalent HR leadership certification preferred
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
This position is based in an office within an active boatyard and requires regular visits to vessels and production areas. These environments involve moderate to high noise levels, uneven surfaces, and physical access challenges such as inclined gangways and vertical ladders. Proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and strict adherence to safety protocols are mandatory.
Pay and Benefits:
- $120,000 - $150,000 / annually
