This is more than a job#it#s#an opportunity to be part of something bigger.# Job Title:#Medical Director, Outpatient#Surgery# Reports To:#Chief Medical Officer# Dyad Partner:#Director of#Outpatient Surgery### Position Summary# The Medical Director of Outpatient Surgery#is a practicing, board-certified surgeon who provides both clinical care and executive leadership within the ambulatory surgery center. This role combines active surgical practice with strategic oversight of clinical quality, physician governance, operational performance, and regulatory compliance.# Working in a dyad leadership model with the Director of#Outpatient Surgery, the Medical Director ensures delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered, and cost-effective surgical care while modeling the organization#s core values:# Clinical Responsibilities## The Medical Director is expected to serve as a clinical role model and#maintain#high standards#of surgical performance, professionalism, and patient safety.#In addition to administrative leadership duties, the Medical Director will:# Maintain an active surgical practice within the outpatient surgery center.# Provide direct patient care, including pre-operative evaluation, surgical procedures, and post-operative management.# Ensure#appropriate patient#selection and adherence to ambulatory surgery safety criteria.# Maintain clinical productivity consistent with agreed-upon benchmarks.# Participate in call coverage and peer case review as applicable.# Adhere to all medical staff bylaws, credentialing requirements, and continuing medical education standards.# Model best practices in documentation, patient communication, and surgical outcomes.# Demonstrate compassionate, patient-centered care that builds trust and strengthens community reputation.# Maintain board certification and unrestricted licensure.# Build Trust# Foster a culture of integrity, accountability, and ethical medical practice.# Promote transparency in clinical decision-making and physician governance.# Address concerns, grievances, and complaints with fairness, compassion, and timeliness.# Serve as a trusted liaison between physicians, administration, and executive leadership.# Obsess Over Excellence# Establish and uphold high clinical standards and evidence-based best practices.# Lead continuous quality improvement initiatives.# Use performance data to drive measurable improvements in outcomes, safety, and patient experience.# Ensure rigorous compliance with accreditation and regulatory requirements.# Lead Innovation# Advance new care models, technologies, and process improvements in outpatient surgery.# Encourage creative problem-solving and bold strategic thinking.# Drive operational#efficiency#while enhancing quality and controlling costs.# Identify#opportunities for#service#growth and program development.# Deepen Connections# Promote teamwork among physicians, nursing, anesthesia, and support staff.# Strengthen relationships with referring providers, hospitals, payors, and community partners.# Champion patient- and family-centered care principles.# Foster#an inclusive and positive work environment.# Key Responsibilities# Clinical Leadership # Performance Improvement# Develop, implement, and#monitor#quality assurance and quality improvement programs in collaboration with leadership and committees.# Direct monitoring of:# Clinical outcomes# Chart audits# Utilization#and appropriateness of services# Patient satisfaction surveys# Physician performance and charging patterns# Recommend and implement improvements to enhance overall quality of care.# Promote adoption of evidence-based best practices.# Coordinate review and resolution of complaints related to physicians or clinical care.# Review malpractice complaints and claims in partnership with compliance and risk management.# Ensure compliance with Department of Health regulations, professional standards, and all local, state, and federal requirements.# Lead development of systems to track outcomes, performance indicators, and improvement initiatives.# Dyad Leadership # Physician Engagement# Serve in a dyad leadership structure with the Director of#Outpatient Surgery#to achieve clinical and operational excellence.# Share accountability for financial and operational performance targets.# Support recruitment, onboarding, and retention of high-performing surgical staff.# Resolve conflicts between physicians or departments in a constructive and#timely#manner.# Address physician grievances and#initiate#disciplinary action when conduct is inconsistent with organizational values.# Establish clear communication channels to ensure prompt resolution of clinical or service issues.# Foster professional development opportunities for clinical and administrative staff.# Strategic Development # Licensure# MD or DO from an accredited institution# Board Certification in a surgical specialty# Active, unrestricted state medical license# Eligible for medical staff privileges# Experience# 5#7+ years of clinical surgical practice#required# Leadership experience in ambulatory surgery center or hospital setting preferred# Demonstrated experience in quality improvement and regulatory compliance# Knowledge #
