What are the responsibilities and job description for the Education Youth Advocate position at SNOQUALMIE INDIAN TRIBE?

Youth Advocate services will assist youth in navigating their school and career field; by helping youth meet their goals. Youth Advocates will provide outreach, advocacy, and appropriate services to youth and families by maintaining regular contact with youth and monitoring youth in their progress towards reaching individual goals. Youth Advocates will establish and maintain collaborative working partnerships with community organizations. The Advocate also assists with access and distribution of education benefit programs for enrolled Snoqualmie Tribe members.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Assist with Education Benefit Programming, which may include Early Education, K-12, Higher Education, Home Schooling, and related programs.
  • Advise tribal members and program participants regarding program content, policies, procedures, and activities and make recommendations as appropriate. Verify program eligibility, assist program participants to access resources, and ensure confidentiality.
  • Provide information and advice to tribal members, program participants, and staff regarding program content, policies, and activities. Assist tribal members to apply for benefits and access resources.
  • Enter into a collaborative relationship with youth and families to identify needs for and barriers to service and educational access.
  • Provide support and encouragement in establishing, monitoring, and reaching youth and families educational and personal goals.
  • Initiate ongoing home and school visits and participant/family follow-up and provide age appropriate and cultural appropriate intervention services.
  • Respond to participant referrals and follow-up inquiries in accordance with program policies.
  • Advocate for youth and work with community/support service agencies to overcome barriers to education and services.
  • Maintain effective relationships and coordinate services with relevant community resources, including public schools, police department, educational, legal, and health service agencies.
  • Plan, coordinate and oversee the Snoqualmie Tribe Summer Internship Program for high school level youth.
  • Attend all required meetings and meet all reporting deadlines.
  • Establish and maintain an effective system of communication within the organization and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Conduct Individual Student Plan meetings when necessary and monitor the progress of the Youth.
  • Work with grant manager or writing and implementing grant opportunities around youth education and youth internship/work experience/trade programming.


ADDITIONAL DUTIES:


  • Assist with applying for external scholarships and FASFA type financial assistance.
  • Assist with all efforts in building public support for long-term program sustainability.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
  • Proficient in academic institution portal systems
  • Ability to troubleshoot digital e-form issues on both iPhone and android devices.
  • Knowledge of Native cultures, history, and traditions strongly preferred.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

Education Required:


  • High School diploma or GED and 5 years’ experience or job specific certification if applicable; or associate’s degree with 3 years of experience; or bachelor’s degree in education with 1 year of experience.

Experience:


  • Previous work experience in Education resource programs and/or tribal government required.

Certifications/Licenses:


  • Valid Washington State Driver’s License
  • HIPAA certification within 30 days of employment.

Other Requirements:


  • Must be able to pass a thorough pre-employment background investigation.
  • Must agree to be subject to the Tribe's Controlled Substance and Alcohol Testing Policy to include pre-employment screening.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work generally takes place in an office environment within a controlled atmosphere building. Noise levels are typically low to moderate. Remote or hybrid work arrangements may be possible in accordance with the Tribe’s Telecommuting Policy.

TRIBAL PREFERENCE POLICY:

The Snoqualmie Indian Tribe follows the Tribal Hiring Preference as outlined in tribal policies, including the Tribal Employment Rights Ordinance (TERO). TERO sets forth certain hiring preferences for qualified individuals who are enrolled in a federally recognized Indian tribe, as well as, in some cases, preference for certain family members of those individuals.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION


  • Compensation will be determined based on experience and starts at $27.21 per hour.
  • This position is a full-time position and employment is at will.
