About the role
As a State Director for YFEI, you will lead YFEI’s presence in your state, working closely with the national leadership team to expand our outreach and impact. You will recruit and support local chapters, build relationships with schools and community organizations, and coordinate workshops and events that bring financial education directly to students. This role is designed for youth and students who want to significantly grow their leadership skills, real-world work experience, and network while creating meaningful social impact.
What you’ll do
- Lead YFEI’s strategy and presence in your state, working closely with the national team to set goals and track progress.
- Recruit, onboard, and support student leaders who start and run YFEI chapters at high schools, colleges, and community centers.
- Collaborate regularly with YFEI’s core team to brainstorm and execute new ways to expand outreach, increase membership, and reach more students with financial education.
- Build and maintain relationships with schools, counselors, teachers, and community organizations to host YFEI workshops and programs.
- Coordinate and oversee financial literacy workshops, speaker events, and campaigns in your state, ensuring they align with YFEI’s curriculum and mission.
- Mentor chapter leaders through regular check-ins, sharing best practices, helping them troubleshoot challenges, and celebrating wins.
- Track and report key metrics (chapters launched, events held, students reached, partnerships formed) to the national team.
- Help manage and contribute to state-specific communication channels (such as group chats, email updates, and social media content) to keep your network engaged.
- Represent YFEI at local events, conferences, and school programs when opportunities arise.

- Are a high school or college student passionate about financial literacy, education, or youth empowerment.
- Want to expand your leadership experience by managing projects, organizing events, and guiding other student leaders.
- Are excited to build your work experience through outreach, communication with educators and partners, and coordinating programs.
- Have experience starting or leading a club, organization, project, or major initiative at your school or in your community.
- Communicate clearly and professionally in writing and in person (emails, calls, presentations).
- Are organized, reliable, and able to manage your time around school, exams, and other commitments.
- Enjoy brainstorming, problem-solving, and testing new ideas to grow YFEI’s reach in your state.
- Are comfortable or willing to become comfortable with outreach (cold emails, DMs, speaking to new people) to share YFEI’s mission.
Preferred but not required:
- Involvement in DECA, FBLA, economics/finance clubs, or similar organizations.
- Experience with nonprofits, student-led initiatives, or education programs
Time commitment and logistics
- Role type: Part-time, unpaid volunteer student leadership position.
- Time commitment: Approximately 3–5 hours per week during the school year, with flexibility during exams and holidays.
- Location: Hybrid/remote. Most work can be done online, with occasional in-person meetings or events in your state depending on opportunities.
- Term length: Ideally at least one academic year, with the option to continue and grow into higher leadership roles within YFEI.
