The Application Engineer role at Axchem USA is key to making our chemical applications safe, reliable, and best-practice while continuously anticipating and managing risks. The Application Engineer is responsible for making safety the priority even under demanding conditions and time pressures. Application Engineers must be effective communicators to fellow Application Engineers, Technicians, Sales Representatives, and Leadership. He/she must be self-starting, often working alone in the field, and responsible to manage customer interactions and produce effective customer-facing service reports geared towards communicating value and ensuring confidence in Axchem programs. Application Engineers will have the ability to proactively identify system improvement opportunities, form a corrective action plan, coordinate with Axchem engineering and equipment resources, and execute the plan. He/she must be willing to solve complicated problems when needed. Primary duties include monitoring, optimization, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Axchem programs at our customer sites. This includes equipment installation, repair, maintenance, and improvement, relying on resources as needed. This also includes monitoring the customer process to assess and document Axchem program performance. May include sample collection and testing, reporting, and investigation/troubleshooting. Expected to be proactive in activities and communication with the customer, the Axchem team, and other stakeholders as appropriate. This position also supports customer audits, system surveys, and trial support as part of an Axchem team. Travel in a territory is expected, and travel throughout the US to support other Axchem activities may be required periodically. Qualifications EDUCATION: Bachelor's Degree - A Bachelor’s Degree in Science or an equivalent level of field experience is required. Preferred degrees would be Pulp and Paper Science, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Biology. EXPERIENCE: 5 Years - In Chemical or Paper Industry working directly with customers preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES: Experience with and aptitude for chemical storage, handling, and feeding equipment and instrumentation, including specification, installation, start-up, troubleshooting, and optimization. Experience with and aptitude for industrial processes, especially Pulp and Paper mills and influent or wastewater operations. Experience sampling and testing these processes for chemical or other performance assessments is a plus. Strong commitment to safety, including experience participating in or leading safety training, safety audits, or other safety-related activities. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Familiarity with modern business technology (i.e. Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Outlook, GPS apps, etc.) Physical ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs. and safely navigate in hot and loud industrial environments. Ability to develop and further customer relationships while utilizing technical skills in achieving Company sales objectives. Strong orientation to team development and the ability to work productively with other Axchem personnel and gain their cooperation and respect. Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills are a must. Ability to travel up to 50% of the time, as needed.
