Position Overview:
We are seeking a full-time Applications Engineer to lead our Materials & Process Characterization efforts. This role reports directly to the President of Convergent US and focuses on developing and executing process simulations, materials testing, and model fitting for carbon fiber composites. Responsibilities include:
- Creating Python-based simulation and modeling tools
- Designing and building test fixtures for materials and process characterization
- Developing and optimizing test methods for materials and process characterization
This position requires a strong foundation in the physics of composite processing (e.g., kinetics, stress evolution), mathematical modeling, software development, and effective communication with both internal teams and external clients.
Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Perform engineering tasks under the supervision of the President
- Conduct laboratory testing (DSC, DMA, FTIR, Instron, etc.)
- Collaborate directly with customers on simulation, characterization, and process development
- Provide consulting on process troubleshooting and optimization
- Prepare service quotes and pricing for customers
- Generate technical reports and project updates for internal and external stakeholders
- Develop new simulation tools, test methodologies, and fixtures to support R&D and improve characterization processes
Desired Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in engineering, physics, mathematics, or a related STEM field
- Experience with AI-driven software development and physics-based modeling
- Proficiency in Python scripting, especially for technical and AI-based applications
- Hands-on experience with materials characterization and lab equipment
