About the Opportunity

Our client, an established manufacturing company in New Hampshire, is seeking a hands-on Controller / Human Resources Manager to oversee the organization's financial operations while managing essential human resources functions.

This is a highly visible leadership opportunity for a versatile professional who enjoys working in a smaller manufacturing environment, taking ownership of multiple business functions, and partnering directly with leadership to drive operational and financial success.

The ideal candidate combines strong accounting and financial management experience with practical HR knowledge, excellent organizational skills, and a willingness to remain involved in day-to-day responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

Accounting & Financial Management

  • Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, reconciliations, and cash management.
  • Manage month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and operational performance reports.
  • Monitor cash flow, working capital, inventory valuation, and manufacturing costs.
  • Partner with leadership to identify opportunities for cost savings, improved profitability, and operational efficiency.
  • Maintain internal controls, financial procedures, and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Coordinate with external accountants, auditors, banking partners, and other financial resources.
  • Support financial planning and decision-making through accurate reporting and analysis.

Human Resources & Employee Administration

  • Oversee day-to-day HR functions, including recruiting coordination, onboarding, employee records, and employee relations.
  • Manage payroll administration, employee benefits, and related reporting requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and New Hampshire employment laws, company policies, and workplace regulations.
  • Administer employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off.
  • Support leadership with performance management, employee development, and personnel matters.
  • Maintain and update employee handbooks, policies, procedures, and HR documentation.
  • Serve as a trusted resource for employees and management regarding HR-related questions and concerns.

Business Operations & Leadership Support

  • Work closely with the General Manager to strengthen financial processes, administrative efficiency, and organizational performance.
  • Develop and improve reporting systems, internal procedures, and administrative workflows.
  • Maintain accurate records and ensure timely completion of financial and HR responsibilities.
  • Support ERP system utilization, reporting accuracy, and process improvements.
  • Provide financial insight and operational recommendations that support long-term business stability and growth.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Previous experience as a Controller, Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, or similar financial leadership position.
  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting, financial statements, budgeting, cash flow, and month-end close.
  • Experience with manufacturing accounting, inventory valuation, cost accounting, and cost of goods sold strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of payroll administration, employee benefits, HR compliance, and employee relations.
  • Experience with ERP and accounting systems.
  • Strong Excel skills and the ability to analyze financial and operational data.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple responsibilities independently.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with leadership and employees at all levels.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred; equivalent practical experience will be considered.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is a hands-on accounting leader who is comfortable wearing multiple hats in a manufacturing environment.

This individual understands the financial side of manufacturing, can independently manage the accounting function, and is equally comfortable overseeing payroll, benefits, employee administration, and day-to-day HR responsibilities.

Why Consider This Opportunity?

  • Join an established manufacturer with a long-standing history.
  • Take ownership of both financial operations and key HR functions.
  • Work directly with senior leadership and influence important business decisions.
  • Enjoy a broad, hands-on position with meaningful responsibility and autonomy.
  • Play an important role in improving financial visibility, internal processes, and organizational efficiency.
  • Make a direct impact in a smaller company where your contributions are recognized and valued.
