Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution.
Required Qualifications
• 2-4 years of relevant professional experience with a Bachelor’s degree, or 1 year of experience with a Master’s degree.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Windows operating systems and standard computer applications.
• Strong troubleshooting skills involving complex mechanical, electrical, and software systems.
• Demonstrated analytical thinking and problem-solving capabilities.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to diverse audiences.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating successfully within a multidisciplinary team environment.
• Strong organizational, time-management, and prioritization skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Ability to frequently climb on and off heavy equipment while carrying a backpack or similar testing equipment.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience working with Ubuntu or other Linux-based operating systems.
• Familiarity with test planning, test execution, validation processes, and technical documentation.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Knowledge of autonomous vehicle technologies, including perception, localization, planning, positioning, controls, or related systems.
Position Overview
The Controls Engineer will be a key member of the Integration and Validation team, supporting the testing and validation of autonomous haul truck systems. This second-shift role requires hands-on involvement in system integration, troubleshooting, testing, and data analysis to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of autonomous mining vehicles. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with cross-functional engineering teams to identify issues, evaluate system performance, and drive continuous improvements.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop, maintain, and enhance test plans, validation procedures, and testing methodologies for autonomous haul truck systems.
• Execute integration, verification, and validation testing on autonomous mining equipment and supporting technologies.
• Collect, analyze, and interpret test data to assess system performance, identify trends, and recommend improvements.
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, software, and system integration issues impacting autonomous vehicle functionality.
• Accurately document test activities, results, defects, and observations, ensuring clear communication with engineering and project stakeholders.
• Prepare comprehensive test reports and provide actionable recommendations based on testing outcomes and operational findings.
• Partner with software, systems, controls, and mechanical engineering teams to improve vehicle performance, reliability, safety, and operational efficiency.
