Maintenance Lead - Jackson, TN

SMS Mill Services, LLC, provides highly efficient and cost-effective scrap management, slag handling, and other support services for steel producing mills. This position will be stationed at SMS on Gerdau Steel Mill.

Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, SMS Mill Services is looking for an experienced Maintenance Lead to manage Preventative Maintenance (PM) scheduling and maintenance planning. As well as be the lead maintenance on all diesel, hydraulic and electric mobile equipment, including but not limited to haul trucks, loaders, material handlers, support equipment and shredders.

Responsibilities:

• PM scheduling and maintenance planning
• Diagnose, Repair and Maintain Heavy Equipment.
• Troubleshoot reported problems and resolve them in a timely manner
• Enter operating hours logged from machines into JDE software
• Create work orders
• Perform thorough maintenance on machinery, equipment, and systems
• Clean and apply lubricants to machinery components
• Replenish fluids and components of engines and machinery
• Provide consultation on correct maintenance and preventative measures to machine or vehicle users
• Develop and implement a preventative maintenance system if needed
• Keep logs of work and report on issues
• Monitor equipment for appropriate usage, test equipment and systems for performance
• Ensure adherence to Health and Safety, Environmental and Quality Assurance policies
  
  

Qualifications:

• Five (5) years of heavy mobile maintenance experience required
• Strong diagnostic and repair skills with diesel and hydraulic heavy mobile equipment
• Ability to read and understand equipment service manuals - required
• Commitment to working safely and to standards required
• Ability to provide own basic tools
• Computer & software skills required
• Demonstrated ability to be self-directed, team orientated, work with minimum supervision and lead by example
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to organize and multi-task.
• Ability to weld, Stick and Mig a plus
  
  

Safety:

• Adhere to all local, state, OSHA, environmental and site-specific regulations
• Perform and document daily safety checks, follow all safety rules, wear PPE, provide a safe environment for all employees and visitors.
  
  

Schedule:

• Monday – Friday, 8-hour day shift
• Working overtime if needed
• Willing to respond to emergency equipment failures at night, if necessary
