Duties
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up necessary supplies, and ensuring all equipment is functioning properly in accordance with aseptic technique and infection control protocols.
- Assist dentists during various procedures including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry by handing instruments, managing suction, and operating dental equipment such as X-ray machines and 3D scanners.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-ray images), ensuring proper positioning and safety measures to protect patients from radiation exposure.
- Manage medical documentation by accurately recording patient information, medical history, vital signs, and treatment details within Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems like Eaglesoft or Dentrix.
- Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, updating medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations, and acting as a dental receptionist when needed to enhance patient flow.
- Ensure all clinical areas adhere to infection control standards by following strict sterilization procedures and maintaining a clean environment.
- Assist with medical imaging and recordkeeping for complex cases involving pediatrics or specialized treatments like prosthodontics or endodontics.
Experience
- Previous experience working in a dental clinic setting is highly preferred, particularly with general dentistry or pediatric dentistry practices.
- Proficiency in dental assisting techniques including chairside assisting, taking vital signs, and operating dental imaging equipment such as X-ray machines and 3D scanners.
- Familiarity with dental terminology, medical terminology, and medical coding to accurately document procedures and support billing processes.
- Hands-on experience with EMR systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix; knowledge of Epic or similar platforms is a plus.
- Strong understanding of infection control practices, aseptic techniques, anatomy knowledge relevant to dentistry, and HIPAA compliance standards.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients of all ages—especially pediatrics—and work seamlessly within a team using four-handed dentistry techniques for efficiency.
