Gel Coater

Smoker Craft, Inc currently has an opening for Gel Coater! This position works from our plant in New Paris, IN. 

Gel Coater’s starting pay is $22.35/hr. and with positive reviews can be increased to $24.35/hr after 60 days. 

After the first week of work, employees are eligible for an Attendance Bonus averaging an additional $100/month. 

Shift Schedule is 5 am to 1:30 pm, Monday-Friday. 

Responsibilities include:

• Applying the initial protective and decorative layer (gel coat) to boat molds, hulls, and decks to produce a smooth, durable, and glossy finish

• Preparing molds, mixing materials, spraying coatings with specialized equipment 

• Operate professional spray guns (including chop gun systems) to apply an even coat of gel to hull and deck molds.

• Monitor millage thickness, verify coating uniformity, and ensure compliance with color specifications.

• Identify and repair surface defects, such as pinholes, sag, air entrapment, orange peel, and color variations.

• Clean and maintain spray equipment, filters, and pumps to ensure optimal performance.

Required skills and experience:

• 1–2 years of experience in gel coat application, marine manufacturing, or auto body paint repair.

• Proficient in using hand tools and professional air-assisted spray equipment.

• Strong understanding of gel coat chemistry, catalyst ratios, curing times, and environmental impacts on finish quality.

• Ability to stand for long shifts, climb ladders, and lift up to 50 lbs.

• Strong attention to detail, ability to read, write, and follow detailed work orders.

Schedule: 

-8-hour shift

-Day shift 5 am - 1:30 pm

-Monday to Friday
