Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled Machinist to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for setting up and operating various machine tools to produce precision parts and instruments. This role requires a strong understanding of machining processes, attention to detail, and the ability to read and interpret technical drawings. The Machinist will work collaboratively within a manufacturing environment that emphasizes quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
Duties
- Set up and operate CNC machines to fabricate components according to specifications.
- Utilize CAD software for designing parts and creating machining programs.
- Measure and inspect finished products using precision measuring tools to ensure adherence to quality standards.
- Perform routine maintenance on machines and troubleshoot any operational issues.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to optimize machining processes and implement lean manufacturing principles.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to safety protocols at all times.
Required Qualifications
- Experience: 3 years operating CNC machines (mills, lathes, or routers)
- Technical Skills: Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, CAD drawings, and engineering schematics
- Material Knowledge: Experience working with metals (steel, aluminum, stainless) or plastics relevant to your machines
- Tooling & Setup: Ability to set up tools, fixtures, and workpieces accurately
- Precision & Measurement: Experience with calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other measuring tools to ensure tight tolerances
- Problem-Solving: Ability to troubleshoot machine and program issues efficiently
- Work Ethic: Detail-oriented, reliable, and able to work independently or in a team
Preferred/Bonus Qualifications
- Experience in custom machinery or packaging equipment (since SML specializes in grid packers)
- Experience with BricsCAD or other CAD software (helpful for design collaboration)
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing & Continuous Improvement practices
- Prior work in small-to-medium-sized manufacturing shops
Certifications (Preferred but Not Required)
- CNC Machinist Certification (NIMS, AWS, or similar)
- Associate degree or trade school diploma in Machining, Manufacturing, or Engineering
