Overview
The Category Manager for Grocery will play a pivotal role in driving the growth and profitability of our product lines. This position involves strategic planning, market analysis, and supplier relationship management to ensure that our offerings meet customer demands and industry trends. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and executing category strategies that enhance our competitive position in the market. Additionally, this role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to optimize inventory management and product placement. Ultimately, the Category Manager will contribute to the overall success of the business by ensuring that our cheese and charcuterie selections are both appealing and profitable.
- Develop, implement, and manage the performance of sourcing and purchasing strategies to meet business goals and objectives.
- Ensure the procurement of goods, managing specific vendor and/or category assignments to manage with total responsibility for achieving target gross margin, in-stock levels and spoilage rates.
- Research, evaluate, and select vendors; build and maintain positive vendor relationships; and negotiate favorable contracts and terms.
- Analyze pricing, monitor department budget, and identify opportunities for cost savings through data analysis and negotiation.
- Oversee inventory levels, process purchase orders, and ensure the quality and timely delivery of procured goods. Evaluate and manage returns and vendor notification for products that do not meet quality standards upon delivery.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and regulations, and analyze market trends to inform purchasing decisions.
- Ensure and maintain constructive working relationships with all coworkers, manager, customers and business partners.
- Follow Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOPs), GMPs (Good Manufacturing Practices), and all food safety protocols.
- Collaborate effectively across department and organizational boundaries.
- Adheres to the core values and standards of the organization.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain Management, Marketing or related field or a combination of education and experience.
- Possess more than five year’s experience, including current experience purchasing in the food industry or like duties.
- Demonstrated knowledge and proficient Excel skills
- Demonstrated knowledge and current experience with OSHA safety standards and regulations.
- Oral and written fluency in the English language.
- This position is designated safety sensitive and requires adherence to strict safety and quality protocols.
