Role & Responsibilities
Smead Capital Management, a long-only value manager based in Phoenix, AZ, seeks an Internal Sales Associate to support 2-3 external salespeople. The position will report to the Chief Operating Officer who oversees distribution. This candidate will be tasked with making outbound phone calls, sending both targeted and blast emails, setting up meetings, responding to due-diligence requests, helping with sales reporting, and assisting with customer & vendor requests. The Sales team covers financial advisors, RIAs, family offices, endowments, pension funds, and other institutional investors. Smead (approximately $6bn in AUM) is the largest asset manager headquartered in Arizona; this candidate will be responsible for supporting multiple time zones and should expect to work from 5:30am-3:30pm daily.
Functions will include:
- Establishing new relationships with financial advisors, RIAs, family offices, and institutional investors on behalf of Smead’s external sales team
- Support capital raising activities for Smead’s two mutual funds (the Smead Value Fund and the Smead International Value Fund), UCTIS fund (domiciled in Luxembourg), and SMAs/UMAs
- Servicing existing investors/responding to customer requests
- Responding to due-diligence requests and facilitating reporting as needed
Required Background & Skills
The successful applicant will have 1-3 years of industry experience with a proven track record of supporting capital raising and relationship management activities. A 4-year college degree is required; progress towards the CFA designation is a plus. The ideal candidate will have the following skills:
- Subject Matter Expertise: General knowledge of mutual funds, value investing, and the ability to quickly develop expertise in Smead’s process and product offerings is essential.
- Global Perspective: Well-rounded individual with varied experience and a curious mind that has the ability to add value to the investor experience beyond being a mere subject matter expert.
- Relationship Building: Ability to quickly develop relationships with sales team members and build new relationships with RIAs, family offices, and/or institutional investors.
- Sales Acumen: Self-starter with a keen ability to execute and achieve goals; has excellent communication skills, a high level of organization, and a drive to outperform the competition.
Title & Compensation
Associate; $60,000 base with discretionary bonus compensation commensurate with skills & experience.
Location & Additional Information
Phoenix, AZ (Smead’s Global HQ). Aside from occasional work travel, this is an in-office role (i.e. not a “work from home” position). Dress code is suits Monday-Thursday, business casual on Fridays. Candidate must be able to pass a drug test (including for marijuana) and successfully complete a background check.
