Job Title: Power & Control Specialist (Drive Specialist) – Joplin, MO
Job Summary: We are looking for a Power & Control Specialist (Drive Specialist) to join our team in Joplin, Mo. This role is a technical sales, customer-facing position focused on driving growth and application success around Rockwell Automation PowerFlex drives, motor control, and integrated power solutions.
This individual will work closely with Account Managers and customers to identify opportunities, develop solutions, and support the full lifecycle of drive-related applications. The right candidate will bring hands-on experience with Logix platforms and PowerFlex drives, along with the ability to translate customer needs into practical, value-driven solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
• Lead pre-sale technical engagement for PowerFlex drives, MCCs, and power control solutions
• Work directly with customers to understand application requirements and develop drive solutions (pump, fan, conveyor, etc.)
• Size, select, and configure drives and supporting components using Rockwell tools (ProposalWorks, Advisor, Motion Analyzer, etc.)
• Support quoting activities and ensure technically accurate, complete solutions are delivered
• Conduct customer presentations, demos, and technical discussions around drive technologies and integrated architecture
• Provide post-sale technical support while leveraging Rockwell resources and ASP partners where appropriate
• Identify modernization and conversion opportunities from legacy drive systems to current PowerFlex platforms
• Collaborate with other Automation Specialists and Account Managers to develop and execute account plans
• Support and lead customer-facing activities such as lunch & learns, training sessions, and technical workshops
• Assist in developing internal team knowledge by supporting training and mentoring efforts
• Apply Outcome-Based Selling (OBS) principles to align solutions with customer business drivers
Technical Responsibilities:
• Demonstrate working knowledge of Logix platforms and integration with PowerFlex drives
• Configure and troubleshoot PowerFlex Component and Architecture Class Drives
• Understand motor control fundamentals, load types (constant torque, variable torque, constant HP), and application requirements
• Interpret electrical drawings, including one-line diagrams and SCCR requirements
• Apply knowledge of installation best practices (grounding, cable length, power quality, etc.)
• Utilize Studio 5000, CCW, and related tools for integration and configuration
• Understand and communicate key differentiators such as TotalFORCE, CIP Motion, and Integrated Architecture
• Support complete solutions including motors, cabling, and Encompass partner products
Qualifications:
• 3 years of experience with Logix platforms and PowerFlex drives (1 year considered for strong candidates)
• Experience with industrial automation, motor control, or drive applications
• Ability to size and apply VFDs in real-world applications
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Effective communication skills with the ability to work directly with customers and internal teams
• Self-driven with the ability to manage multiple opportunities and priorities
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with Rockwell Automation products and distributor environment
• Knowledge of MCCs, medium voltage drives, or motion applications
• Familiarity with EtherNet/IP networks and industrial communication protocols
• Exposure to safety systems and industrial standards
• Experience working with OEMs, system integrators, and end users
Development Expectations (First 12–18 Months):
• Develop competency in core drive technologies and applications
• Demonstrate ability to present and position solutions to customers
• Transition from product selection to full solution ownership
• Participate in customer-facing projects and Proof of Concepts
• Progress toward becoming a primary technical resource and instructor for drive-related topics
Work Environment:
• Based in Joplin, MO with regular customer site visits
• Travel within the region as needed to support customers and sales teams
• Occasional after-hours work depending on customer needs
