Job Summary
SMC Packaging is seeking a detail-oriented Quality Assurance Specialist to help ensure our products meet established quality and safety standards. This position supports our Product Safety & Quality Management System through product testing, inspections, documentation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
The ideal candidate will have experience in quality assurance or quality control in a manufacturing environment and a strong commitment to product quality, safety, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities & Essential Duties
Understand and operate basic testing/measuring equipment as well as utilize internal quality lab testing equipment and document results to provide coverage for Lab Technician.
- Perform tests on products to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications before they are released to the market.
- Examine products at various stages of production to identify defects or non-conformities and ensure compliance with company and industry standards.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, tests, and quality assurance metrics, including defect densities and open defect counts.
- Assist in creating and implementing quality assurance procedures and work instructions that enhance product safety, quality and efficiency.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of quality assurance standards, existing policies and procedures for effective evaluation of the Product Safety and Quality Management program (internal auditing).
- Conduct research on quality issues, prepare appropriate reports for management, and champion continuous improvement.
- Monitor all testing/measuring equipment for accuracy and proper function; ensure test equipment calibration is performed as required with documented results.
- Serve as a resource for the provision of special product compliance documentation requirements, (e.g. Bilateral Trade Agreements, USMCA Certificates, Compliance Certification, Customer Surveys, COAs, etc.).
- Work closely with production, engineering, and management teams to identify quality issues and implement corrective actions.
- Communicate professionally with customers, managers, supervisors and employees. Represent the organization at all times while engaged in community activities or work-related functions.
- Understand and practice all safety requirements and regulations as set forth in the Company Handbook.
- Practice good housekeeping habits in all work areas.
- Assist in other areas or with other duties, as needed and directed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 2 years of experience in quality assurance or quality control
- Experience in a manufacturing or production environment preferred
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills (5 Why, Fishbone/Cause & Effect, 5W2H)
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Strong organizational and documentation skills
- Self-motivated with strong attention to detail
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Positive attitude and team mindset
Pay: $25.00 - $31.25 per hour
