What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate, Settlements position at SMBC Group?
Role Description
Core Competencies/Skills:
- Ensure timely execution of day-to-day settlement activities
- Investigation of settlement-related issues such as unrecognized/unmatched trades and payment disputes
- Fail Management – daily affirmation of fails and focus on clearing them ASAP
- Work with Treasury and Cash Operations teams to settle margin requirements by deadline
- Fulfill Triparty shells at end of each night and ensure they are properly collateralized until they roll off
- Proactive management and timely escalation of emerging risks/issues
- Preparation of metrics and other reports as required
- Proactive mitigation of risk by reviewing and strengthening procedures and identifying opportunities for process enhancement
- Partner with the New York Securities Operations team to ensure an environment of tight controls, regulatory compliance and continuous product and process education
- Assistance with projects/initiatives related to enhancing current processes and controls, including planning and implementation

- 5 years of experience in Financial Services
- 2 years of experience working in Security Settlements
- Comfort with FED, DTC, and/or Euroclear Settlement Platforms
- BA/BS preferably in Accounting, Finance or Economics
- (Strong Preference) Proficiency in Bloomberg TOMS, ALERT, FICC, Euroclear, Broadridge IMPACT
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
