Manufacturing Machinist (Manual and CNC)

SmartFlow Technologies, a manufacturer of filtration systems in Sanford NC, has a first shift opening for an experienced machinist. The company’s need for machining is growing and a key highly skilled Machinist is needed for the growing production environment. The company’s intention is to bring in a strong Machinist to program, fixture, determine set points and required tooling in in addition to performing some production machining in the short term. The company intends to expand its equipment base and bring in machine operators to handle the production volume. This is a position with growth opportunity.

The candidate should be familiar with basic CNC machining centers. It would be a plus if they had working knowledge of lathes and manual mills, and

Specific equipment in plant:

• (1) CNC machining center (Trak-TMC10)
• (1) CNC lathe (Haas SL20)
• (1) Manual mill (Bridgeport)

The ideal candidate will have a model shop background and be familiar with the machinist’s handbook. Programming is a plus and not a job requirement but the ability and desire to learn is necessary, (Engineering can support the Machinist as needed).

Position Description:

• Maintains a clean and safe work area and work practices.
• Determines tooling and set points for all machining functions.
• Programs and operates CNC mill/lathe and performs manual machining.
• Input into part design, equipment procurement, tooling brand and part finishes.
• Trains, oversees training of machine operators.
• Supports plant Engineers with a variety of value-add projects.
• Supports welders with (machined part prep and finish)
• Supports Quality Manager with documentation creation / program revision control.
• Supports Production Manager with Filter Shop production.
• Some travel may be necessary (may be included on Engineering team supporting startups).

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 1 year’s experience as a working machinist. Trade school completion is sufficient.
• Uses and helps create drawings and design sketches to determine the proper dimensions and tolerance levels of the finished product.
• Possesses the ability to meet and measure part tolerances.
• Understands and performs equipment and tooling care/maintenance (mechanic performs repairs)
• Ability to use hand tools and test equipment.
• High school diploma.
• Knowledge of Microsoft office applications (Word and Excel).
• Good verbal and written communication skills in English.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $23.00 - $28.00 per hour
