After-School Program Director/Lead Teacher
Small Tales Daycare is seeking an energetic and dependable Director/Lead Teacher to oversee our after-school enrichment program. This position combines program leadership, staff supervision, and direct work with school-age children.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise the daily operation of the after-school program.
- Plan engaging activities, enrichment projects, recreation, and homework support.
- Maintain active supervision, required ratios, and a safe environment.
- Lead, schedule, and support program staff.
- Use positive behavior-guidance and conflict-resolution strategies.
- Communicate professionally with families and school personnel.
- Maintain attendance, incident, staffing, and program records.
- Ensure compliance with OCFS regulations and Small Tales policies.
- Assist with enrollment, supplies, special events, and program planning.
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must have two years of experience working with children under age 13, including at least one year in a supervisory role, plus one of the following:
- Associate degree or higher in child development, elementary education, physical education, recreation, or a related field;
- New York State Children’s Program Administrator Credential;
- School-Age Child Care Credential or another OCFS-recognized school-age credential; or
- Two years of college with at least 18 credits in a related field.
Additional Requirements
- Able to pass all required OCFS background checks and clearances.
- Provide at least two non-relative professional or character references.
- Complete required OCFS health, safety, and mandated-reporter training.
- Obtain or maintain pediatric CPR and first aid certification.
- Strong leadership, communication, organization, and behavior-management skills.
- Dependable and available during after-school program hours.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree or New York State teaching certification.
- Experience managing an after-school or school-age child care program.
- Experience creating enrichment, STEM, art, recreation, or literacy activities.
- Knowledge of OCFS regulations and recordkeeping.
