Role
SLR is seeking a motivated Civil Engineering Intern to join our built environment consulting team in Cheshire, CT. This position offers hands-on experience supporting environmental, site/civil, and infrastructure projects under the guidance of experienced engineers and environmental professionals. Interns will gain exposure to real world consulting work including site development, stormwater management, permitting, and field investigations.
Responsibilities
- Assist with site/civil and environmental engineering design, including grading, drainage, utilities, and erosion & sediment control.
- Support stormwater management and water resources tasks, including hydrologic and hydraulic calculations and plan preparation.
- Assist with preparation of engineering drawings, technical memoranda, and permit applications for municipal and state agencies.
- Participate in field work and site inspections, including data collection, construction observations, and environmental assessments under supervision.
- Collaborate with engineers, environmental scientists, and surveyors to support multidisciplinary consulting projects.
- Organize project data and assist with reports, calculations, and documentation.

Here’s what else you’ll enjoy as part of our team:
- SLR offers internships to help students get practical work experience in their chosen field. The internship is a temporary, seasonal position beginning in May through August 2026.
- The hourly range for this position is $20- $25. Final agreed upon compensation will be commensurate with individual education, professional designation, experience, internal parity, and location.
- This is a non-benefits eligible position.
- Qualifications/Education/Memberships:
- Currently pursuing a B.S. in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related field from an accredited college or university.
- Strong interest in environmental consulting, site development, and water resources.
- Basic understanding of civil engineering principles (grading, drainage, utilities, or stormwater).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and work effectively in a team-oriented consulting environment.
- Experience or coursework related to stormwater management, hydrology, or land use permitting.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, HydroCAD, or similar engineering software.
- Prior internship, co-op, or field experience in civil or environmental engineering.
- Knowledge of Connecticut environmental regulations or municipal permitting processes (a plus, not required).
