What are the responsibilities and job description for the Creative Marketing & Design Intern position at SLP Lighting?
SLP Lighting / Koller Enterprises
Creative Marketing & Design Intern
Mentorship-Based | On-Site | Sullivan / Fenton, MO
About Us
SLP Lighting is a 55-year-old American LED lighting manufacturer headquartered in Sullivan and Fenton, Missouri, operating under the Koller Enterprises family of companies. Our product line includes vapor tight fixtures, high bays, plastic and metal louvers, and BAA/BABA-compliant lighting for federal contractors, all designed and built in-house. We also operate subsidiary brands including Creative Lumens and Amersol.
This is a real manufacturing company, not a startup or agency. The work you do here shows up in print, online, and in customers’ inboxes. It’s tangible.
The Role
This is a mentorship-first internship. You’ll work directly alongside our Marketing Manager, who handles photography, design, technical writing, and web development for the companies. The goal is simple: teach you how a one-person creative department actually runs at a manufacturing company, from concept through execution.
You won’t be fetching coffee or watching from the sidelines. You’ll have your hands on real projects from day one, including helping us build out brand-new websites for our subsidiary product lines.
What You’ll Actually Do
• Marketing Materials: Help build and refine print and digital collateral like brochures, sell sheets, flyers, and product packaging.
• Design Support: Assist with layout, typography, and production files in Adobe Creative Cloud (Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign).
• Social Media: Contribute ideas, create content, and help execute posts across LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook.
• Photo & Video Support: Learn the fundamentals of professional product photography and help produce basic video content for social media and marketing channels.
• Presentations: Build and polish PowerPoint decks for sales, trade shows, and internal use.
• Email Marketing: Help design and deploy email campaigns and newsletters.
• Web Development: Help build and maintain subsidiary brand websites, including Creative Lumens and Amersol. Great opportunity to learn how design translates into functional web builds from the ground up.
Who We’re Looking For
We don’t need a finished product. We need someone with a strong foundation and the drive to build on it.
• You have a working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud, specifically Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign.
• You’re comfortable in the Microsoft/Google ecosystem: PowerPoint, Word, Sheets, Docs.
• Premiere Pro or basic video editing experience is a bonus but not required.
• When something breaks or looks wrong, your first instinct is to dig in and troubleshoot it yourself.
• You fall down creative rabbit holes and enjoy creating and learning.
• You have reliable transportation. Our offices are in Sullivan and Fenton, so you’ll need to be able to get here.
What You’ll Walk Away With
This internship is designed to compress years of learning into a short, focused experience. By the end, you’ll have hands-on knowledge of:
• How a full marketing operation works inside a manufacturing company.
• Building brand websites from the ground up for new product lines.
• Creating professional print and digital marketing materials.
• The reasoning behind design choices, not just the execution.
• A portfolio of real, published work you can point to.
• Marketing data analysis knowledge
How to Apply
Send us something that shows how you think. A portfolio link, a few recent projects, or even a PDF or JPG of your best work. A story of failure can be just as powerful as a polished piece.
One more thing: somewhere in your application, include the words watermelon and hedgehog. We’ll explain later.
