Load Builder / Lumberyard Customer Service

As a Load Builder for Sliters, your mission is to ensure timely and accurate materials handling and delivery to achieve Sliters’ customer service objectives and protect company assets, including vehicles, yard equipment and inventory. You will utilize product and inventory knowledge and materials handling practices to ensure loads are safely built and accurately loaded to ensure on-time, in-full delivery of materials to customer jobsites. As a member of the yard crew, you will help serve customers in the lumber yard and provide prompt, friendly and courteous service.

Responsibilities include

• Pulling and staging materials to be loaded.
• Loading trucks at the direction of the yard foreman and driver
• Assisting will-call customer and helping them load materials
• Safely operating machinery, such as saws, as required in the performance of customer service.
• Being familiar with all inventory items and their location, unloading shipments and storing incoming materials in their proper location
• Adherence at all times to safety and fire regulations
• Keeping yard clean and merchandise orderly
• Learning and using proper material handling techniques to reduce damage of goods
• Being familiar with the grades, dimensions, species of lumber in stock and other merchandise stored in yard
• Being able to tolerate and function in diverse seasonal climate changes
• Ensuring no damage of material, equipment, racks, storage buildings.
• Reporting complaints or other problems with customers promptly to supervisor.
• Promptly reporting all accidents and violations and filing appropriate forms.
• Promptly assisting with material returns and coordinating with yard foreman to put away.
• Being alert to potential sales opportunities and completeness of project solution.
• Assuming other duties as workload and need dictate.

This position requires a high degree of physical fitness as duties require standing and walking throughout the day and includes occasional heavy lifting (90-100 lbs) with significant outdoor activities. May load merchandise into customer vehicles.
