What are the responsibilities and job description for the HS Science/Girls Coach position at Slidell Independent School District?
Primary Purpose:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in science designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. In addition, serve as a girls coach to develop student-athletes’ skills, teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship while supporting the overall athletic program.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate in Science (preferred: grades 7–12 or 8–12)
- CDL (or willingness to obtain, if required by district)
- Demonstrated knowledge of content area and effective instructional strategies
- Ability to work collaboratively in a small school environment
Instructional (Science Teacher):
- Develop and implement lesson plans aligned with TEKS and district curriculum
- Deliver engaging, rigorous instruction that meets diverse student needs
- Use data to drive instruction and improve student performance
- Prepare students for state assessments (EOC, STAAR, etc.)
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and attendance
- Establish and maintain a positive, structured classroom environment
- Communicate regularly with students, parents, and staff
Coaching (Girls Athletics):
- Coach assigned sport(s) (e.g. basketball, track, etc.)
- Plan, organize, and lead practices, competitions, and offseason programs
- Teach fundamentals, strategies, and character development
- Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and accountability
- Assist with game preparation, scouting, and equipment management
- Supervise student-athletes during practices, games, and travel
- Ensure compliance with UIL rules and district policies
Professional Responsibilities:
- Participate in staff development, faculty meetings
- Collaborate with colleagues to support campus and district goals
- Maintain professional relationships with students, parents, and community
- Support campus initiatives and extracurricular activities
- Uphold district standards of professionalism and ethics
Working Conditions:
- Maintain emotional control under stress
- Frequent standing, walking, and physical activity
- Ability to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends (coaching duties)
- Travel required for athletic events
