What are the responsibilities and job description for the Elementary ELAR/Math Special Education Inclusion Teacher position at Slidell Independent School District?
Primary Purpose:
Provide direct instructional support to students in general education classrooms in the areas of ELAR (English Language Arts and Reading) and Math. Collaborate with general education teachers to ensure all students, including those receiving special education services, achieve academic success through differentiated instruction and inclusive practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
- Valid Texas teaching certificate (Special Education certification, Elementary Core Subjects EC–6 preferred)
- ESL certification (preferred)
- Dyslexia certification (preferred by not required)
- Knowledge of curriculum and instruction for ELAR and Math
- Experience working with diverse learners, including students with disabilities
Instructional Support:
- Deliver small group and/or in-class instruction aligned to ELAR and Math standards
- Support implementation of IEPs, accommodations, and modifications
- Reinforce concepts taught by the general education teacher
- Utilize research-based strategies to support struggling learners
Collaboration:
- Work closely with general education teachers to co-plan and co-teach lessons
- Collaborate with special education staff, interventionists, and administrators
- Participate in ARD/IEP meetings as required
- Assist in progress monitoring and documentation of student growth
- Position may include co-teaching, push-in, and pull-out support models
Student Support:
- Build positive relationships with students to support academic and behavioral success
- Monitor student performance and adjust instruction accordingly
- Support classroom management and maintain a positive learning environment
Assessment & Data:
- Assist in administering and analyzing formative and summative assessments
- Use data to inform instructional decisions and interventions
- Maintain accurate records related to student progress and services
Professional Responsibilities:
- Participate in staff development, professional learning opportunities, and team collaboration
- Stay current on best practices in inclusion and differentiated instruction
- Follow district policies, procedures, and expectations
- Flexibility and strong communication skills are essential
Working Conditions:
- Work in general education classroom settings with varying student needs
- Frequent standing, walking, and assisting students
- May work with students requiring physical, emotional, or academic support
