Position Summary
Slater Brothers Enterprise is seeking an experienced Excavator Operator to support commercial underground utility and excavation projects throughout Kentucky.
This is a full-time salaried position responsible for the safe, efficient, and precise operation of excavators used in the installation of water mains, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, and related underground utility systems. Working closely with the Foreman and Pipe Crew, the Excavator Operator plays a critical role in maintaining production, protecting existing infrastructure, and delivering quality workmanship on every project.
Responsibilities
As an Excavator Operator, you will:
- Safely and efficiently operate hydraulic excavators in support of underground utility installation.
- Excavate trenches for water, sanitary sewer, storm drainage, and related utility systems.
- Perform precise excavation around existing utilities, structures, trench boxes, and shoring systems.
- Coordinate closely with the Foreman and Pipe Crew to maintain safe, efficient production.
- Read utility markings, grade stakes, and project layouts.
- Perform daily equipment inspections and report maintenance or repair needs.
- Maintain equipment in a clean, safe, and serviceable condition.
- Follow OSHA regulations and all company safety policies and procedures.
- Assist with general construction activities as needed to support the crew.
- Represent Slater Brothers Enterprise professionally on every jobsite.

QualificationsRequired
- Minimum three (3) years of excavator operating experience.
- Experience working on underground utility or excavation projects.
- Ability to excavate safely around existing utilities and active pipe crews.
- Knowledge of trench safety and OSHA excavation requirements.
- Ability to read grade stakes and follow project layouts.
- Strong work ethic, dependability, and attention to detail.
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
Preferred
- Experience installing water, sanitary sewer, or storm drainage systems.
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification.
- Experience with GPS machine control or grade control systems.
