Software QA / Test Engineer – Distributed Systems & Kubernetes - High Growth Network Security Company

(Multiple openings from Mid to Sr. to Lead)

San Jose, CA (you can work from home 1x/week)

The company is in the SASE (Secure Access Service Edge) and SD-WAN networking space.

The company has raised a large amount of funding from top investors and is expecting an IPO in the next 1-2 years. It has almost 1,000 employees (roughly double what it was 4 years ago), and 250 engineers, and is rapidly growing.

The company will pay a salary commensurate with experience (ranging from $140k-$250k), plus equity.

Job Responsibilities:

- Designing, developing, and executing comprehensive test plans and test cases for company services and features.

- Performing functional, regression, scale, high availability, and endurance testing.

- Validating end-to-end workflows.

- Identifying, documenting, and tracking defects with detailed reproduction steps; verify and validate fixes.

- Replicating complex customer-reported issues in lab and scale environments.

- Building and managing scale test environments by deploying product components and supporting infrastructure.

- Deploying, configuring, administering, and troubleshooting Kubernetes clusters in on-premises environments.

- Operating and testing distributed database systems (e.g., Cassandra, MongoDB, CockroachDB) in Kubernetes, ensuring high availability, data consistency, and performance.

- Validating Kubernetes security best practices, including RBAC, secrets management, Pod Security, and network policies.

- Monitoring and tuning Kubernetes workloads for performance, stability, and reliability.

- Testing backup, restore, disaster recovery, and upgrade scenarios for product deployments.

- Collaborating closely with development teams to design scalable architectures and troubleshoot performance and scale issues.

- Developing automation for product features across Windows, macOS, and Linux agents.

- Writing and maintaining automation scripts using Bash and Python.

- Creating technical documentation and knowledge articles and publishing them to the company's internal and customer portals.

- Contributing across multiple company solutions, addressing problems of diverse scope and complexity.

Qualifications:

- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for diagnosing complex server, network, and distributed system issues.

- Strong knowledge of the TCP/IP protocol suite and network security concepts, including:

- Stateful Firewall (SFW), Next-Generation Firewall (NGFW).

- IPsec VPN, SSL-VPN, and NAT.

- Understanding of Linux/Unix environments.

- Skilled in scripting languages such as Bash and Python.

- Knowledge of Kubernetes architecture, security logs, and vulnerability management.

- Understanding of networking fundamentals, including routing protocols such as OSPF and BGP.

- Experience with container technologies such as Docker or Podman, and container orchestration using Kubernetes.

- Experience testing distributed databases deployed in Kubernetes, including:

- StatefulSets

- Persistent Volume Claims (PVCs)

- Dynamic volume provisioning

- Backup, recovery, scaling, and clustering techniques

- Understanding of user authentication and authorization mechanisms, including LDAP, RADIUS, SAML, Certificate-based authentication, and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA).

- Experience with Windows system internals and diagnostic tools.

- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams.

Nice to have:

- Experience testing carrier-grade or cloud-native networking/security platforms.

- Experience with large-scale, high-availability, and multi-tenant environments.

- Understanding of CI/CD pipelines and test automation frameworks.
