What are the responsibilities and job description for the Audience and Development Associate position at Skylight?
About Skylight:
Skylight is a digital magazine dedicated to exploring how New Yorkers are reducing carbon emissions in apartment buildings, with a particular focus on the city’s ambitious clean energy transition. We publish well-researched, solutions-oriented stories that show how buildings — and the people who run them — are moving toward a low-carbon future. In this way, Skylight aims to accelerate the clean energy transformation in New York, support the realization of the standards set by Local Law 97, and show that decarbonization at scale is attainable in the United States.
Responsibilities:
- Manage and grow Skylight’s social media presence, including drafting posts, tracking audience analytics, monitoring engagement, and identifying opportunities to reach new audiences.
- Assist with development activities, including donor outreach, basic grant preparation, maintaining a grants calendar, and assembling fundraising materials.
- Conduct organizational and landscape research to support audience strategy, partnership mapping, and internal planning.
- Join team editorial meetings and offer input on stories, campaigns, and digital strategy.
Qualifications:
We seek an energetic, engaged professional with one to two years of work experience and outstanding writing and interpersonal skills. Other key qualifications include:
- Strong familiarity with social media platforms, digital media, or audience engagement strategies;
- Highly proficient in Google Suite, Canva, Hootsuite, and short-form video editing platforms;
- Excellent writing skills and a love of precision with language, grammar, and punctuation;
- A passion for sustainability, clean energy, and housing-related topics;
- Attention to detail and the ability to meet tight deadlines; and
- An undergraduate degree.
Compensation:
The expected compensation is $30/hour. This is a good-faith estimate of what we expect to pay; the actual salary will be based on the person’s experience. We are committed to full, fair compensation, and this is not the cap for a career at Skylight.
