Job Summary
The Boom Lift Operator provides safe and professional onsite support by operating boom lifts and other approved aerial work platforms to assist maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, and repair activities at customer locations. This position operates under a dispatch support model, responding to scheduled, emergency, and after-hours service requests as directed. The role focuses on providing safe equipment access for authorized personnel and supporting Business-as-Usual (BAU) operational activities. It excludes construction projects, equipment installation, and major implementation work.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate boom lifts and other authorized aerial work platforms in accordance with OSHA regulations, manufacturer guidelines, and site safety requirements.
- Respond to dispatched service requests at customer locations for scheduled and emergency support.
- Perform pre-operation and post-operation inspections of boom lifts and immediately report any equipment defects or safety concerns.
- Conduct workplace hazard assessments before operating aerial equipment.
- Position and maneuver equipment safely to provide access for maintenance, inspection, and troubleshooting activities.
- Follow all customer Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), lockout/tagout (LOTO), and work permit requirements.
- Maintain safe operating distances from overhead hazards, electrical equipment, and restricted work areas.
- Support maintenance teams by providing safe aerial access during approved operational activities.
- Maintain accurate documentation of equipment inspections, operational activities, and safety observations.
- Immediately report incidents, near misses, unsafe conditions, or equipment malfunctions.
- Ensure work areas remain safe, clean, and compliant throughout all onsite activities.
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical or vocational training in heavy equipment or aerial lift operation is preferred.
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of experience operating boom lifts or other aerial work platforms in industrial, commercial, warehouse, manufacturing, telecommunications, construction, or data center environments.
- Experience working under strict safety procedures and customer site requirements.
- Experience supporting dispatched field service operations is preferred.
Technical Skills
- Safe operation of boom lifts and aerial work platforms.
- Equipment inspection and basic operational troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of fall protection systems and safe work-at-height practices.
- Ability to interpret work instructions and site safety procedures.
- Strong awareness of workplace hazards and emergency response procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively with dispatch teams, supervisors, and onsite personnel.
Required Certifications
- OSHA Safety Certification (OSHA 10 or OSHA 30, or equivalent)
- Certified Boom Lift / Aerial Lift Operator Training
- Valid certification for Mobile Elevating Work Platforms (MEWP), where applicable
- Fall Protection Training
Preferred Certifications
- Scissor Lift Operator Certification
- Working at Heights Certification
- First Aid / CPR Certification
Additional Requirements
- Must be willing to work under a dispatch support model.
- Must be available for 24x7x365 on-call support, including weekdays, nights, weekends, public holidays, and emergency call-outs based on customer operational requirements.
- Must be able to travel to customer locations on short notice.
- Must be comfortable working at heights exceeding 30 feet (9 meters) while following all applicable safety regulations.
- Must be physically capable of climbing, standing for extended periods, and operating aerial equipment in various weather and site conditions.
- Ability to wear required PPE and comply with all customer safety policies.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and professionalism while interacting with customers and onsite personnel.
