What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manufacturing Engineer position at Skills Alliance?
Reporting to the Engineering Director, this position offers the opportunity to contribute to the development and commercialization of advanced medical imaging technologies. The role involves working across the full product development lifecycle, supporting the design, testing, and manufacture of complex electromechanical systems in a highly collaborative engineering environment.
The successful candidate will be a practical, hands-on engineer who enjoys solving technical challenges, working cross-functionally, and taking ownership of projects from early-stage concept through to production release.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead mechanical design activities across product development projects, including concept generation, detailed design, prototyping, testing, verification, and design transfer.
• Develop precision mechanical components, assemblies, structural enclosures, shielding solutions, and other electromechanical subsystems.
• Produce and maintain engineering documentation including CAD models, detailed drawings, bills of materials, and technical specifications using SolidWorks.
• Apply GD&T, tolerance analysis, Design for Manufacturing (DFM), and Design for Assembly (DFA) principles to optimize product performance, quality, and manufacturability.
• Perform mechanical evaluations and analyses, including structural, thermal, and tolerance assessments, to support design decisions.
• Design, build, and assess prototypes to validate product concepts and performance.
• Support verification and validation activities in line with quality and regulatory requirements.
• Collaborate with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Service teams to support production, continuous improvement, and product lifecycle activities.
• Drive root cause investigations, corrective actions, and engineering changes relating to product or manufacturing issues.
• Work closely with suppliers and external manufacturing partners to ensure component quality and successful product introductions.
• Partner with multidisciplinary teams including Mechanical, Electrical, Software, Quality, and Regulatory Engineering to deliver integrated solutions.
• Participate in design reviews, technical discussions, and project planning activities while contributing to a culture of innovation and engineering excellence.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 3 years' experience in mechanical product development.
• Proven track record designing and developing complex electromechanical products.
• Experience supporting products from concept through commercialization and manufacturing transfer.
• Strong proficiency with SolidWorks, including 3D modelling, assemblies, and technical drawings.
• Experience with GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, sheet metal design, injection moulded plastics, machined components, DFM, and DFA methodologies.
• Understanding of structural, thermal, and mechanical analysis techniques.
• Familiarity with Product Data Management (PDM) systems.
Preferred Experience
• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• Experience within medical devices, life sciences, diagnostics, imaging systems, or other regulated industries.
• Knowledge of ISO 13485 and relevant product development standards.
• Exposure to IEC 60601, IEC 61010, DFMEA, PFMEA, PPAP, and value engineering methodologies.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and organisational skills with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
This role is primarily site-based within an engineering and light manufacturing environment and offers the opportunity to work on innovative products with real-world clinical impact.
