What are the responsibilities and job description for the Commercial Glazier position at Sixth City Glazing?
Commercial Glazier — Columbus, OH
Sixth City Glazing · Columbus metro, Ohio · $23–$30/hr base, plus prevailing wage uplifts on public projects
We’re hiring a commercial glazier (also called a glass installer) with 2 years of experience to join our Columbus crew. Steady pipeline of real commercial work, straightforward pay, and a shop that runs the jobsites well — including crews starting the day at the jobsite instead of the shop, so you’re not burning an unpaid hour on the road before the work begins.
What you’ll earn
- $23–$30/hr base pay, depending on experience and skill set
- Overtime available when projects demand it
- Prevailing wage projects pay significantly more. On Franklin County glazier-scope PW work, the total package is currently $50.61/hr (base wage plus fringes, with employer-paid benefits credited against the fringe portion). In practice, that typically means $10–$15 /hr in additional cash wages on PW project days compared to standard rate.
The work you’ll be doing
You’ll be installing commercial glazing systems on projects across central Ohio — storefronts, curtain walls, aluminum entrances, ribbon windows, and interior glass systems. Our project mix is real variety: K–12, higher ed, multifamily, historic renovation, and mixed-use. Not the same strip mall job every week.
Recent Columbus-area work

- The Galaxy at Polaris, Building 1 — storefront and entrance package
- The Edge — interior / exterior storefront and entrances
- Columbus City Schools Door & Window Upgrades — multi-building program

On the board for 2026
- AC Lane High — large mixed-use project ($3.8M glazing scope)
- 9th & High — curtain wall and aluminum entrances
- East Broad Street Apartments Clubhouse — storefront and entrances
- Columbus Old Fire Station 10 — historic renovation, thermal storefront and entrances
Schedule, travel, and logistics
- Standard hours: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
- OT available when projects demand it
- Crews start the day at the jobsite — not the shop — on most days. No unpaid windshield time driving to Lewis Center before your work begins.
- Home shop is in Lewis Center, OH; most work is across the Columbus metro.
- Out-of-metro work (1.5 hours from the shop): paid overnight lodging plus daily per diem.
What we need from you
- 2 years of commercial glazing experience — storefronts, curtain walls, aluminum entrances, interior glass, and/or windows
- Comfortable reading shop drawings, elevations, and door and frame schedules
- Comfortable working with glass, aluminum extrusions, entrance hardware, and the tools of the trade (hand, power, and basic layout tools)
- Able to work at heights, from lifts, and in outdoor conditions
- Able to lift heavy materials as the work requires
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to jobsites
- Professional attitude — shows up when scheduled, communicates clearly, takes pride in the install
Benefits
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- 401(k) with company match
- 15 days paid time off — use-as-you-want (no separate vacation/sick buckets)
- 7 paid holidays plus 1 floating paid day (typically used around Christmas)
- Starter package of hand tools, power tools, and safety PPE provided
- Paid OSHA and equipment training
- Real path to foreman and lead roles for people who want it
