Description
This position:
- Maintains patient clinical and billing information over the telephone and as
- Ensures patient data is accurate and up to date;
- Collects
Answers and routes incoming phone calls, answers patient questions, and addresses
complaints; and
- Utilizing the electronic health record system, scan and/or index insurance
Examples of Duties
70% Patient Receiving and Registration
- Receives and welcomes patients into the clinic.
- Interviews patients to obtain demographic and billing information and enters into the
- Accesses computer terminal to input, update, retrieve and review patient
- Creates initial medical record for new patients and reviews new patient information.
- Obtains patient's signature on authorization forms
- Generates daily schedules, prints encounter forms and demographic information
- Scans patient insurance cards for indexing into the electronic health record.
- Assists with running chart summaries for patients out of the EHR.
- Assists with indexing patient link medical, social and family histories into the EHR.
- Answers incoming patient calls and handles appropriately, always following clinical
- Schedules same day, follow-up and acute appointments
- Route calls to nurses and physicians as appropriate
- Collects payment at time of service, always knowledgeable of managed care co-pays.
- Completes and maintains necessary receipt register.
- Responsible for depositing bank deposits at local bank per written protocol
- Handles patient complaints according to established policies.
- Provide backup to other clinic business office functions.
- CREDENTIALS TO BE VERIFIED BY PLACEMENT OFFICER
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Any one or any combination totaling one (1) year (12 months), from the categories below:
- Work experience comparable to that performed at the Medical Office Assistant level or in other positions of comparable responsibility.
- Work experience in a health care facility such as a doctor's, dentist's, or hospital's office; which involved record keeping, working with the public, direct patient contact, answering telephones, and working with medical terminology.
- Graduation from an accredited medical secretarial or paramedical program, such as nursing assistant, medical assistant, or medical secretary.
- Condition of Employment: Pursuant to the State Universities Civil Service System, an out-of-state resident who is hired into this position must establish Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of their start date.
