Asphalt Lab Manager

Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Asphalt Laboratory Manager to lead our asphalt testing and quality assurance operations. This pivotal role involves overseeing laboratory activities, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and driving continuous improvement in asphalt testing procedures. As the Asphalt Lab Manager, you will play a key role in supporting infrastructure development projects by providing accurate, reliable data and maintaining rigorous laboratory standards. Your leadership will ensure that all testing processes meet regulatory requirements and uphold the highest quality benchmarks, fostering innovation and excellence within our team.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily laboratory operations related to asphalt testing, ensuring adherence to industry standards and safety protocols.
• Supervise and mentor laboratory staff, fostering a collaborative environment focused on precision and continuous learning.
• Develop, review, and optimize laboratory procedures for asphalt sample preparation, testing, and analysis.
• Ensure accurate data collection, storage, and reporting.
• Ensure compliance with relevant regulations such as GLP (Good Laboratory Practice), ASTM standards, and industry best practices.
• Coordinate with project teams to support research & development initiatives, providing technical expertise on asphalt materials.
• Conduct analysis of test results related to asphalt properties such as viscosity, binder content, gradation, and durability.
• Maintain detailed documentation of all laboratory activities, audits, calibration records, and quality control measures.
• Lead efforts in continuous improvement by evaluating new testing techniques and integrating innovative laboratory techniques like molecular biology or microbiology where applicable.

Requirements

• 5 years experience managing a clinical or research laboratory environment with a focus on asphalt or construction materials testing.
• Must have current CTQP Asphalt Plant Level 1 & Level 2 certifications.
• Strong knowledge of FDOT, CGMP standards, and ASTM or industry-specific testing protocols.
• Experience with MAC
• Excellent project management skills with the ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining high-quality standards.
• Supervisory experience leading laboratory teams with a focus on training, safety compliance, and performance evaluation.
• Strong understanding of laboratory procedures related to asphalt testing such as sample preparation, physical property measurements, chemical analysis, and durability assessments.
• Exceptional analysis skills for interpreting complex data sets to inform research & development efforts or quality assurance decisions.
• Knowledge of research & development processes within the construction materials industry is highly desirable.
