Laser Field Service Technician
Location: United States (National coverage)
Reports To: VP of Sales – SISMA USA Inc.
Position Summary
The Laser Field Service Technician will be responsible for installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of SISMA laser machines throughout the U.S. This role requires frequent travel, close collaboration with our U.S. subsidiary team, and constant communication with our headquarters in Italy.
This is a hands-on, customer-facing position that demands strong technical aptitude, self-management, and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
- Install, assemble, and commission laser machines at customer sites.
- Perform preventive maintenance, service, and repair of installed machines.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex electrical, electronic, and mechanical issues.
- Provide customer training on operation and basic maintenance of SISMA machines.
- Maintain accurate service records, expense reports, and customer documentation.
- Provide telephone and remote technical support (Help Desk) to customers.
- Support sales and distributor partners by:
- Preparing and running machine samples for demonstrations.
- Preparing sample reports for customers and prospects.
- Assisting during trade shows, open houses, and customer visits.
- Collaborate with distributors and partners to adapt SISMA machine functions to specific customer requirements.
- Coordinate with SISMA headquarters in Italy:
- Service department (repairs, escalations, maintenance issues).
- Sales engineering department (project feasibility, special applications).
- Provide technical support and setup for trade shows, events, and demonstrations.
Qualifications & skills
- Technical background in electronics, electrical engineering, or electromechanics (degree preferred but not required).
- Minimum 5 years of experience in servicing complex industrial machinery; prior laser equipment experience strongly preferred.
- Experience with multi-axis automated machines (motion systems, actuators, robotics, or CNC).
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Experience working with machine HMIs (Human Machine Interfaces).
- Knowledge of CNC programming, PLC systems, and related automation software.
- PC proficiency, including Microsoft Office; 2D/3D design or graphics software knowledge (Rhinoceros, Inkscape, CorelDraw, Illustrator) is a plus
- Fluent in English (spoken and written); Italian language skills are a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, customer orientation, and ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
- Ability to organize work independently and prioritize multiple service tasks.
- Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
Additional requirements
- Travel: 50% throughout the U.S. (with occasional international travel).
- Training: Initial training at SISMA Headquarters in Italy, with ongoing technical training provided.
