What are the responsibilities and job description for the System Integration & Test Engineer position at SiPhox Inc.?
About us
SiPhox Health is building a first-of-its-kind consumer diagnostics platform that brings complex biochemical analyses into the home through integrated silicon photonics, microfluidics, embedded systems, and advanced assay development. Our chip-based solution integrates state-of-the-art biochemistry, photonics, electronics, and microfluidics to deliver the power of large laboratory instruments in a portable device.
The role
You will be hands on building and testing the first of its kind home testing system. This is a hands-on bench role for someone who likes taking things apart to find out why they misbehave. You'll work directly with mechanical, electrical, optical, and software engineers, and you'll be the person who finds out what actually happens when all of it is assembled into one box.
What you'll do
- Assemble instruments and subassemblies using hand tools and benchtop equipment
- Run system-level tests and bring-up on new builds
- Design and write test procedures, then improve them as you learn where they fall short
- Analyze test data and report what it means, not just what it says
- Troubleshoot failures down to root cause, pulling in the right subject matter expert when a problem crosses into someone else's domain
- Document test results and write test reports
- Write assembly and test work instructions clear enough that someone new can follow them
- Contribute to risk management: feed real failure modes back into the hazard analysis
What we're looking for
- A technical degree in engineering or a physical science, or equivalent hands-on experience
- Solid troubleshooting instincts: forming a hypothesis, isolating a variable, testing it
- Genuine comfort with hand tools, benchtop instruments, and soldering
- Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings
- Clear technical writing. A large part of this job is making your work legible to other people
- Data literacy. Able to use Python to contribute to the data anaysis
- AI forward, you understand how to use AI tools effectively in your workflow as well as their limitations
Nice to have
- Experience in medical devices, or with ISO 13485, ISO 14971, or design controls
- Optics, photonics, fluidics, or microfluidics exposure
- Test automation and instrument scripting
- Experience taking a product from prototype into production
