Registered Nurse - Psychiatric Department (Registry)
The Albert J. Lurie Psychiatric Unit (6 East) is a 28-bed adult inpatient acute psychiatric unit for patients 18 years of age and older admitted voluntarily or involuntarily with a primary diagnosis of acute mental illness and present as a danger to self and/or others. The most common psychiatric diagnoses we treat include depression, schizoaffective disorder, schizophrenia, and bipolar affect disorder.
Multi-disciplinary treatment involves a medical director, attending psychiatrists, internist, advance practice nurses, registered nurses, mental health workers, unit secretaries, occupational therapist, activities coordinator, Thresholds hospital liaison staff, patient care coordinator and unit director.
- Functions in multidisciplinary team to provide safe milieu management, medication administration and coordination of care of acute and chronic mentally ill adults
- Creates, manages, and updates patient's care plan with care team
- Provides crisis de-escalation for patient with acute agitation
- Conducts patient groups based on unit curriculum
- Coordinates safe discharge linkage in as established in patient's care plan
