POSITION SUMMARY
The Orchestra Assistant is a non-exempt, part-time employee who is a member of the SAA Staffulty team. This role supports the Orchestra program through assisting with musical instrument tuning, orchestra set-up, and various orchestra performances and field trips. The Orchestra Assistant works approximately 4½ hours per week over the course of the school year, primarily supporting the program in the afternoons during rehearsal. This position reports to the Music Specialist & Orchestra Director.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Set up rehearsal spaces (set up chairs, music stands, and unpack/tune instruments)
- Move chairs, stands, and musical instruments
- Support students during instruction and performances
- Take detailed attendance records for weekly rehearsals
- Call/email parents if a student is absent from rehearsal
- Make copies of music, organize files, and assist with other general administrative duties
- Actively participate/assist with rehearsals (assist students, demonstrate musical examples, conduct ensemble as needed)
- Perform with students during concerts, assemblies, and field trips
- Learn, use, and apply technology as required by School to enhance learning, provide feedback to students and parents, and engage with colleagues. Technology includes but is not limited to JagNet, Google Workspace, Paylocity, and any other School approved software.
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor and/or Head of School in support of the school’s mission
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Experience working with children
- Ability to tune and model/teach on string instruments (violin, viola, cello)
- Availability to work on campus Wednesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 PM - 4:45 PM
- An understanding of, or open to learning about, Jewish identity, holidays, practices, traditions, culture and life cycle events
- Collaborative team player who works effectively with colleagues
- Flexible and adaptable to the changing needs of students and our program
- Patient and encouraging with developing musicians
