The Staff Accountant, Entry-Level will support accounting operations within a government contracting environment, ensuring compliance with federal regulations and company policies. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, supporting project-based accounting, and assisting with audits in accordance with FAR and DCAA requirements.
Responsibilities
Review and process employee expense reports for accuracy, allowability, and compliance with FAR and company policy.
Ensure proper documentation and timely reimbursement.
Monitor travel costs and identify potential compliance issues.
Administer corporate credit card program, including issuance, monitoring, and reconciliation.
Review transactions for appropriate business use and policy compliance.
Reconcile credit card statements and resolve discrepancies.
Prepare and submit customer invoices (cost-plus, T&M, and fixed-price contracts).
Ensure billing accuracy and compliance with contract terms and FAR requirements.
Coordinate with project managers to validate labor, subcontractor, and other direct costs.
Assist with unbilled receivables and revenue tracking.
Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts.
Support month-end and year-end close processes.
Maintain organized financial documentation for audit support.
Learn and apply GAAP and government contracting requirements.
Preforms other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications & Education Requirements and Desired Skillsets
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or graduating soon).
0–2 years of accounting or internship experience.
Basic understanding of accounting principles (GAAP).
Strong Excel skills (formulas, basic data analysis).
High attention to detail and willingness to learn.
Internship or exposure to government contracting or project-based accounting.
Familiarity with expense reporting tools (e.g., Concur) or ERP systems.
Interest in learning FAR/DCAA compliance.
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Eagerness to learn and take direction.
Good organizational and time management skills.
Effective communication and teamwork.
Physical Description
Employees in these positions will function in a general office/cubicle setting environment, and laboratory/testing setting using standard office equipment and various electronic testing equipment, including a computer, telephone, printers, video equipment, computer software, and testing equipment. Will interact in a general office setting environment with various personnel; participate in meetings and contribute to team success; deliver timely results and produce reports; receive and communicate information; may include telework. May function in a specialized laboratory/testing environment using electronic testing equipment, computer software, and complex systems. May move and test equipment of various weights. Laboratory environment may require use of protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to safety glasses and protective hearing and footwear. May be expected to work varying shifts and hours to ensure successful operation of activities in the organization due to business demands; travel occasionally for assigned work.
