Role Description The MACP Practicum Trainee is a traineeship role that provides supervised clinical experience for students in the Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology program. This on-site position, located in Redding, CA, involves providing counseling services to undergraduate students under supervision, including conducting intake interviews, developing treatment plans, and maintaining accurate and confidential clinical records. The trainee participates in individual and group supervision, case consultations, and training seminars to refine counseling skills and ensure ethical practice. Day-to-day responsibilities include scheduling client sessions, administering assessments as appropriate, collaborating with faculty supervisors and site staff, and documenting progress notes in a timely manner. The role also includes engaging in reflective practice, adhering to professional and institutional policies, and contributing to a supportive, inclusive, and faith-informed counseling environment.

Qualifications

• Current enrollment in Simpson University's Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology (MACP) program or closely related graduate counseling/psychology program.
• Foundational counseling skills, including active listening, empathy, rapport-building, and maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
• Basic assessment and case conceptualization abilities, including intake interviewing, treatment planning, and risk awareness (e.g., suicidality, harm to self/others).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including clear clinical documentation, professional email communication, and effective interaction with supervisors and staff.
• Understanding of ethical and legal standards in counseling (e.g., confidentiality, informed consent, mandated reporting) and willingness to follow supervisory guidance.
• Cultural humility and the ability to work respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds, identities, and faith traditions.
• Organizational and time-management skills, including punctuality, reliable follow-through on assigned cases, and timely completion of paperwork.
• Openness to feedback, commitment to ongoing professional growth, and engagement in reflective self-awareness regarding personal values and potential biases.
• Interest in integrating faith and counseling practice in a manner consistent with Simpson University’s mission and respectful of client beliefs and preferences.
