Position Title: Speech-Language Pathologist

Department: Special Education

Reports to: Special Education Director

Status: Certified

Summary

The Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) provides diagnostic, therapeutic, and consultative services to students with speech, language, and communication disorders. The SLP identifies students’ needs, develops and implements individualized treatment plans, and collaborates with teachers, parents, and administrators to support student learning and success in compliance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Section 504, and Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) regulations.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology required.
  • Valid Mississippi Department of Education license in Speech-Language Pathology or ability to obtain appropriate licensure.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) preferred.
  • Knowledge of IDEA, Section 504, and MDE regulations related to speech and language services.
  • Experience working with children and adolescents in educational settings preferred.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to provide therapy in both individual and group settings.
  • Commitment to student success and equitable access to services.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Evaluate, diagnose, and provide therapy for students with speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders.
  • Administer appropriate assessments and interpret results to determine eligibility for services.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and objectives related to speech and language.
  • Provide direct and indirect therapy services to students in individual, small group, and classroom settings.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, administrators, and other professionals to integrate speech and language goals into the classroom.
  • Participate in IEP meetings, student assistance teams, and multidisciplinary evaluations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, progress reports, and compliance records in accordance with IDEA, Section 504, and district policies.
  • Provide training, consultation, and resources to teachers and staff regarding communication strategies and classroom supports.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and information in compliance with FERPA.
  • Participate in professional development and remain current with best practices in speech-language pathology.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education or Principal.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Simpson County Board of Education Policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
