What are the responsibilities and job description for the Food Packager - Meal Prep position at Simple Plan?
We are looking for great people to add to our Madison meal packaging team.
This position is for our weekend meal production. To start, our primary production day will be Sundays from approximately 9:00am–5:00pm. As we get closer to opening and as the store grows, there may be occasional Saturday prep shifts available for a few hours, but Sunday availability is the main requirement for this role.
As the Madison location grows, additional production days may become available.
Since we make healthy prepared meals, you will not be frying food or dealing with customers waiting on an order. This is a focused kitchen production role where the team works together to portion, package, label, clean, and prepare meals for the week.

Pay starts at $15–$16/hour depending on prior experience and attitude. If you have not previously completed a ServSafe Food Handler Program and test, you may be required to complete this within your first 4 weeks of employment. Upon completion, you may be eligible for an immediate $0.50/hour wage increase.

Responsibilities:
- Report to work on time, well groomed, and ready to work
- Follow printed recipes, prep lists, and production instructions
- Prepare food for plating in containers
- Portion and package meals according to instruction
- Label meals accurately
- Follow proper food storage and rotation procedures
- Follow cleaning and sanitizing procedures
- Wash dishes and keep kitchen areas organized
- Use, maintain, and clean food preparation surfaces, equipment, and storage areas
- Work efficiently with the kitchen team
- Communicate with leadership and coworkers about product, equipment, safety, or process issues
- Help identify and correct small issues during production to keep the team moving efficiently
Physical requirements:
- Must be able to stand for many hours
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds for short distances
- Requires frequent reaching, bending, pushing, and pulling
- Exposure to heat, steam, cold, and food odors
- Repetitive cutting, scooping, portioning, and packaging motions
- Must be able to communicate clearly with the kitchen team
Experience:
Experience cooking or working in a commercial kitchen is a plus, but not required. Basic skills can be taught on the job.
Skills can be taught. Character and attitude cannot. We are looking for individuals who are reliable, positive, and fit well within our team culture.
