Parts Room Coord Garage

Purpose of the Position

Responsible to receive, organize, deliver and maintain all necessary parts, tires and supplies at approved inventory levels for assigned locations. 

Essential Position Responsibilities - This is a Salary Non Exempt position. 

Responsible for the purchasing of parts, tires and supplies. Responsible for supplying necessary parts for trucks, tractors, pickups, etc. Makes pricing decisions up to manager-set cap. Maintains supplier price lists. Works with vendors on a daily basis to attain the best parts and supplies at the lowest possible costs. Develops strong relationships with vendors. Coordinates the timely delivery and pick up of parts. Demonstrates commitment to cost reductions and waste elimination. 

Processes and maintains inventory. Restocks inventory in a highly accurate and organized fashion. Performs inventory of oil, lube, and tires on a regular basis. Conducts the entire parts room inventory on a monthly basis and assists with annual inventory. Accurately enters parts numbers into the system. Maintains inventory at approved Min/Max  levels. Responsible for housekeeping, organization, and cleanliness of the parts room.  

Works closely with maintenance personnel. Demonstrates an expert knowledge of relevant parts. Assists drivers and maintenance personnel with the installation of parts and supplies when necessary. Matches and compares parts to equipment to increase accuracy and efficiency in order to reduce downtime. 

Expedites and maintains the flow of paperwork including invoices and purchase orders. Ensures invoices are correct and completes purchase orders as necessary. Expedites all paperwork in an appropriate time frame. Enters vehicle work orders into the system. 

Participates as a member of the Team. Participates in the ongoing development, communication and implementation of team concepts, programs and policies; coordinates work to ensure best practices with all team members. Attends appropriate team meetings. As a member of the Team, fosters strong cohesiveness regarding all  major issues; e.g., direction, annual plan, budget, policy changes, etc. Accepts responsibility to quickly identify any  areas that lack cohesiveness, bringing them to the attention of the team leader and working with the team in a supportive manner to resolve issues and actively look for ways, and reinforce actions needed, to achieve synergy  possible within the larger organization. 

Simmons Operating systems principles and objectives: Is familiar with Simmons’ established operating systems (e.g. quality, security, office environment, company policies, LEAN); understands the responsibility to maintain familiarity with the systems and this position’s role in support of these systems - including a consideration of the impact of individual actions on the systems and the responsibility to communicate concerns and improvement ideas.

Physical Activities: Enters and locates information on a computer. Visually verifies information, often in small print. Communicates with Customers, Vendors, or Employees via telephone, in person, and/or electronic mail. May present information to small or large groups. Must be able to work in various temperatures. Move about in a garage environment, office environment, and surrounding property. Must be able to lift at least 10 lbs.  

Travel: Occasionally domestic travel for training purposes. 

Technical Experience: 3-5 years related experience, including maintenance and purchasing experience. Recordkeeping experience, math skills, and high attention to detail are required. Proficiency in using a personal computer required. 

Industry Experience: Transportation or logistics organization preferred. 

Minimum Education: High School diploma or equivalent.  

Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree in related field
